A Nation at Risk; Why Must Liberians Travel Abroad to Stay Alive?

Fellow Liberians and leaders,

The recent death of George Solo is a painful reminder that our healthcare system is failing many of our people. We cannot accept a situation where Liberians, whether living here or abroad, have to travel overseas for basic medical care. I call on Joseph Boakai, the Health Minister, members of the Legislature, and all public officials to make improving our health sector an urgent national priority.

We need immediate action! Invest in hospitals and clinics, equip them with essential medicines and diagnostic tools, train and retain qualified health workers, and ensure transparency and accountability in how funds are spent. Establish clear short-term and long-term targets with timelines and regular public reporting so families can see progress. Engage communities and the Liberian diaspora for support and oversight, and protect vulnerable populations first.

Good healthcare is a matter of safety, dignity, and national pride. Let us act now so no Liberian has to choose between their life and seeking care abroad.

Call for Accountability and Upholding Legislative Standards in Liberia

Monrovia, Liberia; the role of a lawmaker is to legislate, represent constituents, and uphold the rules and decorum of the House. Recent concerns regarding the conduct and performance of Yekeh Kolubah highlight the need for accountability and adherence to these standards.

Members of the House of Representatives are bound by established rules of order, which they are compelled to follow to maintain discipline and effective governance. When those standards are consistently disregarded, the institution has the authority to act in the best interest of its integrity.

In this regard, the expulsion of a member whose conduct undermines the legislative body is a necessary and justified step to protect the credibility of the House and ensure responsible leadership.

Additionally, the principle of separation of powers affirms that the Legislature governs its internal affairs. The Supreme Court should not intervene in matters strictly within the House’s jurisdiction.

Liberia deserves serious, accountable, and respectful leadership.

LMFI Challenges Accuracy of Rep. Ruggie Barry’s 2025 District Report

The Leo Mulbah Foundation Incorporated (LMFI) has issued a formal rebuttal to Representative Ruggie Barry’s 2025 Annual District Report, raising serious concerns about transparency, accuracy, and accountability.

LMFI alleges that key claims, particularly regarding scholarships, youth programs, and road projects, lack verifiable evidence and documentation. The Foundation also questions the absence of a detailed accounting of the $100,000 constituency fund.

More critically, LMFI highlights major omissions, including the ongoing MARCO crisis affecting over 8,000 residents and delays in the WaterAid project for Morris Farm.

In response, LMFI is calling for a public town hall, full financial disclosure, a revised report backed by evidence, and an independent review of all reported programs.

LMFI emphasizes that the people of District No. 1 deserve honest reporting and accountable leadership.

Boakai’s Asset Recovery Team Takes Bold Action

Liberia’s new president Joseph Nyuma Boakai is making anti-corruption a priority. He has created an Assets Recovery and Property Retrieval Task Force to trace and seize property allegedly taken by former officials . Public office holders must now declare their assets when they enter and leave office .

One of the first targets is the Clar Hope Foundation, run by former first lady Clar Marie Weah. A court has ordered the foundation to hand over financial records for its multi‑purpose complex built during her husband’s tenure . Investigators want to know whether public funds or coerced donations financed the project The foundation denies wrongdoing, but the subpoena underscores the government’s determination to recover state assets .

Mr. Boakai also suspended more than 450 officials for failing to declare their assets . Despite threats from members of the former ruling party, the task force’s chair says no intimidation will derail the recovery drive . These bold moves send a clear message that corruption will not be tolerated in Liberia.

Honoring a Champion of Justice and a Friend of Liberia

It is with deep sadness that we send our sincere condolences to Rev. Jesse Jackson's family. His death marks the conclusion of an era, but his legacy of bravery, kindness, and steadfast pursuit of justice will continue to inspire future generations.

Rev. Jackson was not only a prominent leader in the American civil rights movement but also a global voice for oppressed and struggling communities. During Liberia’s darkest civil unrest, he stood firmly with the Liberian people, advocating for peace, dignity, and increased international awareness of civilian suffering. His willingness to engage, speak out, and support Liberia in uncertain times reflected his worldwide commitment to justice beyond borders.

He believed that "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere," and he proved this through his actions. Liberia remains grateful for his moral guidance and backing during pivotal moments in our history.

To the Jackson family, we pray for comfort, strength, and peace in this difficult time. May you find reassurance in knowing that his lifelong efforts touched millions globally, including Liberians.

Although his voice has fallen silent, his influence will resonate forever.

Rest peacefully, Rev. Jackson.

Why Respecting the Court Matters in Liberia 🇱🇷

When someone breaks a law, it’s important that the person faces consequences. This helps keep our society fair and respectful. Recently, a man named Prophet Key (real name Justine Oldpa Yeazeahn) was sentenced to six months in jail by Liberia’s Supreme Court . He made hurtful comments about the Chief Justice and even used harsh words toward the Chief Justice’s mother . He also claimed the court was corrupt. These actions hurt the court’s reputation and were seen as disrespectful to our country’s most important judges .

Here’s why some people think the ruling is good for society:
1. Teaching respect – If people use their platforms to spread lies or insult others, especially leaders and women, they need to understand there are limits. Many Liberian women’s groups welcomed the ruling because it showed the court is serious about stopping such disrespect .
2. Keeping the courts strong – Courts need to be trusted to be fair. If someone attacks the court’s leaders with nasty or unproven statements, it can make people lose faith in justice. Punishing that behavior sends a message that we value fairness and respect.
3. Protecting public voices – Free speech is important, but it doesn’t mean people can say anything without facing consequences. There is a difference between sharing opinions and spreading harmful accusations.

Not everyone agrees. Some critics worry that punishing people for their words might harm freedom of speech . So, this decision has sparked a big debate in Liberia. Do you think the court made the right choice? Should there be a limit on what people can say on social media?

Let’s talk about it!

One Rule for Them, Another for the World

The United States has once again placed itself at the center of global controversy by supporting actions that target and arrest a sitting president of another country on felony charges, while failing to hold its own former president accountable for similar allegations. This contradiction exposes a troubling double standard that undermines the very principles of justice and rule of law the U.S. claims to defend.

For years, serious accusations have followed Donald Trump, yet the U.S. government hesitated, delayed, and in many ways failed to act decisively when accountability was demanded at home. Now, that same government appears willing to endorse or influence punitive actions abroad. This is not justice, it is selective enforcement dressed up as moral authority.

Such actions send a dangerous message: that powerful nations can police the world while shielding their own leaders from consequences. If the rule of law is truly universal, then it must be applied consistently, without regard to nationality, power, or political convenience.

The international community must ask hard questions. Why are a few countries allowed to act with impunity while others are swiftly punished? Who decides which leaders face justice and which are protected? And how long will the world tolerate a system where power, not principle, determines accountability?

True global justice cannot exist under double standards. If international law is to mean anything, it must apply equally to all, strong and weak alike.

Let’s Be Clear: This Was Targeting, Not Accountability

Let’s stop pretending we don’t recognize this pattern.

Nick Shirley did not expose “fraud everywhere.”
He did not investigate multiple communities.
He did not name or question anyone else in his viral clips.

He targeted Somali immigrants, only.

That was not random. That was by design.

He went to a Somali daycare when it was closed, during vacation, when no children, parents, or staff were present. No dialogue. No fact-checking. No accountability. Just cameras, accusations, and content. That alone tells you this was never about children or safety. It was about pushing a narrative.

We’ve seen this before.

America has always used “concern,” “oversight,” and “fraud” as cover words when it wants to attack Black communities:
• Black Americans were labeled dangerous.
• Caribbean immigrants were labeled scammers.
• African immigrants are now labeled fraudulent.
• Muslims are framed as suspicious by default.

Same playbook. Different decade.

Fraud does not live in one community. It never has. But Shirley’s clips made it seem like Somali immigrants are the only ones worth questioning, while he stayed completely silent about similar issues elsewhere. That silence is not neutrality. It’s bias.

And Black people need to hear this clearly:
Separationists survive by dividing us.

They want African Americans to look at African immigrants sideways.
They want Africans to feel isolated.
They want Muslims singled out.
They want us debating who “belongs” instead of asking why the scrutiny is never equal.

Today it’s Somali immigrants.
Tomorrow it’s Haitians.
Next it’s Liberians.
Then it’s “inner-city” Black Americans again.

If you think staying quiet protects you, history says otherwise.

This is not about politics.
This is not about party.
This is about who gets targeted when they start progressing.

Call to Action
• Don’t fall for selective outrage
• Ask why only one group was named
• Call out biased narratives when you see them
• Stand with communities being isolated
• Protect Black unity, across borders, cultures, and faiths

Silence has never saved us. Awareness is the first line of defense.
