Thomas Massie, a Republican congressman from Kentucky, told Tucker Carlson in June 2024 that every Republican in Congress has an AIPAC babysitter. (AIPAC is the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.) “Everybody but me has an AIPAC person,” he said. “It’s like your AIPAC babysitter, who’s always talking to you for AIPAC.” He said these “babysitters” tend to be from the representative’s district, but they’re definitely part of AIPAC.

Since President Trump returned to office in January 2025, his administration has renewed efforts to erect border barriers in parts of the U.S.-Mexico border that don’t currently have any.

That includes the Big Bend region in far West Texas, home to the Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park — both of which the Trump administration has targeted for border security infrastructure.

Progressive California state Sen. Aisha Wahab has won a special election to serve the remainder of disgraced former Rep. Eric Swalwell’s term in the US Congress, defeating a centrist Democrat backed by millions of dollars in AIPAC spending.

“This victory belongs to the voters who made clear that our district cannot be bought,” Wahab said in response to news of her victory, which came some 48 hours after election day. “Through one of the ugliest, most expensive elections we’ve ever seen, we never took the bait or went negative. We stayed focused on the people, and I will fight for this district that raised me.”

With more than 1,000 people dead as of Tuesday and rescue teams still searching for the thousands missing after a glacial collapse in the Himalayas that created a flooding crisis in Nepal and Tibet last week, campaigners, politicians, and scientists reiterated the need for global climate action.

China confirmed at least 16 people are dead and 546 are missing in Tibet, including 261 foreign nationals, while Nepal reported 1,003 deaths and 3,916 more unaccounted for, including 583 foreigners, according to The Associated Press. Among those missing in Nepal are about 900 workersfrom a dozen hydropower projects, 500 of whom are believed to be trapped in tunnels…
