May is National Small Business Month with over 36 million small businesses in the U.S. Our President and Founder was the presenting speaker for the OPRF Women's Business Infinity Group's May meeting

In today’s digital landscape, effective communication isn’t just about the message; it’s about the bridge we build to our community. It was a wonderful morning of networking and professional growth with a dynamic group of leaders.
A heartfelt thank you to the new Executive Director, Melissa Mallinson as she starts0 her term and the entire OPRF Chamber for the invitation to serve and connect.

Today is Caregiver Appreciation Day. This day honors the nearly 40 million caregivers across the country who quietly and consistently care for elderly parents, disabled loved ones, and those facing illness. The conversation was heartfelt and timely thanks to our guest Pastor Jeannette B. Jordan, Founder of Journey to the Cross Ministries and CEO of Dementia Dignified Academy.

We reflected on Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr., who spotlighted the caregiving for Jessie Jackson Sr. He said, "Caregiving for my father, Rev. Jessie Jackson, showed me the real cost of care." As we enter Women's History Month, we remember other community leaders we've recently lost. In recognition of Caregiver Appreciation Day and the theme "Celebrating the Heart in Care," Rev. Jeanette B. Jordan shared her powerful journey caring for her husband through Alzheimer's. She reminded listeners that caregiving is compassion in motion, but it is also labor, and that caregivers must be supported with education, patience, and dignity. Jordan shares this in her book "Journey of Compassion" about her powerful journey caring for her husband through Alzheimer's.

We highlighted the upcoming Dear Me Care Circle Pre-Mother's Day Caregiver Awards Brunch on May 2 at Malcolm X College, continuing the mission to honor both professional and family caregivers who lead with heart.

Today on Community Chatter, we were joined by Dyanna Knight Lewis, Vice President at Real Times Media, Inc., and Twyler Jenkins, Founder and CEO of I Am That Woman Movement, Inc., NFP.

In recognition of Black History Month and National Caregivers Day (February 21), the conversation centered on legacy, leadership, and honoring the women who build and sustain our communities. Twyler shared details about the upcoming I Am That Woman Movement event on March 29 from 1:00–4:00 p.m. at Maggiano’s in downtown Chicago, continuing her organization’s mission to empower and uplift women.

Today on Community Chatter, we were joined by author Carl West to discuss his new book, The Support System: Who Will Help Guide Them?

Carl shared powerful insights on the importance of surrounding ourselves and our youth with positive influences, meaningful images, and affirming narratives. He reflected on the mentors who shaped his life, from neighborhood friends to leaders like Brandon Johnson, and how that guidance helped him make better choices along the way. Carl emphasized how the stories we see, hear, and internalize shape belief, build confidence, and help people imagine possibilities beyond their current circumstances.

It was a thoughtful conversation on guidance, mindset, and the critical role strong support systems play in helping individuals believe that the best is still ahead. You can buy the book, The Support System: Who Will Help Guide Them? online at https://thirdworldpressfoundation.org
