For this Waterfall Wednesday I’m sharing some pics from my recent Sunday Hike at Glen Helen Nature Preserve in Yellow Springs Ohio.
This place has several waterfalls including the yellowish spring it was named after.
I didn’t realize how long it had been since I’d been on this trail. As I pulled up to the parking lot there was a gate and you had to pay to park. Somewhat surprised, I asked the woman how long it had been that way. When she said since sometime in 2022 I remembered that I hadn’t been there since my birthday in 2022. So this visit had a little more meaning to me than just a Sunday hike. ✅
As for the pay to park, I am happy to say it looks like they put the money to good use. I was happy to see the new boardwalks and bridges around the beaver pond that made it easy to enjoy without disturbing the nature.
It was definitely a good day of hiking and enjoying nature and waterfalls.
I’ll also need to get back here sooner than four years because this place is so pretty.

It’s still Tuesday on the West Coast and I wanted to share some of these fun photos from the Independence Day Party 🇺🇸🎉

It also gives me a chance to talk about dancing since I haven’t posted much about it even though it’s been keeping me busy. 🕺🏻

The first is about how I think I need a photographer to follow me around to take pictures of me because I don’t think about it when I’m there.
There’s always a lesson or a class to teach, and when I’m not doing that I’m preparing for lessons and classes, working on a routine or, taking a class myself to expand my knowledge. I’m always thinking about what I’m working on and forget to take a moment to record it.
Fortunately there was a photographer here for the 4th of July party so I have something to share. 🙏
The other point is how much fun I have working at a place that encourages me to dress festively. It brings out the theatrical side of me and makes thrift shopping a lot of fun too. Not only did I find this outfit thrifting, I usually find some nice dress shirts and pants to add to my collection for dancing. Gotta keep adding to the wardrobe to keep my look fresh. 😎
Dressing up does have drawbacks too. I’ve probably ironed more clothes in 2026 than all of my other years living combined.
c’est la vie 💁🏻‍♂️👔
The ironing is totally worth it though.
Compared to all@the fun and joy I get out of being a Ballroom Dancing Instructor.

Stay tuned for more dancing posts including a big event I will be part of thats less than a month away. 💃🏻🕺🏻✨

Fergie in Retrograde is getting a little screwy chronologically as we go to only a little over a week ago to July 5th at Clifton Gorge & John Bryan State Park for a
It’s also the first post of a two for Tuesday. ✌️😉
After a very busy May & June I wanted to get back to hikes further from my home on Sundays. Since it was a hot and humid summer day and it rained heavily the day before I thought this would be the perfect hike and I was right. Not only was I hiking in a gorgeous gorge along cascading water there is a plethora of little streams and waterfalls flowing into the Little Miami River providing a constant sound of running water wherever I was. The sights and sound provide enough relief that you forget how hot it is outside. Until you look at your shirt. 🥵💦

It was just the hike I needed. Literally covered in water just like the gorge. Becoming one with the Earth. 🌎😌🌱

Back to Fergie in Retrograde after a busy week. We’re going back about a month to my birthday weekend and also what I like to refer to as my “Favorite Weekend of the Year” 🥳
My favorite weekend is always around my birthday and Father’s Day and sometimes they happen on the same weekend creating the ultimate Fergie weekend celebration. 🎉
The tradition started years ago and has grown in importance to me and my family now that we all live in separate homes. It’s a weekend we all get to spend time together having fun adventures, playing games and enjoying each other’s company.
Every year I pick a different area in Ohio and we get to see what that area of our home state has to offer. It’s a new adventure every time.
This year we headed to a nice home in Carrollton, OH that had everything we needed for the weekend plus a bonus game room that kept us occupied.
On Saturday we checked out the lake and entertained ourselves at the campground. Then we headed to the Carrollton Strawberry Festival. 🍓 It was much smaller that other festivals we’ve been to, so we enjoyed some food, watched Freddie do the inflatable obstacle course, threw dimes at dishes, and watched tractors pull blocks of concrete. 🚜
Since that didn’t take very long we then headed down the road to a car show/ rib burn-off that had an 80’s tribute band. After stuffing ourselves full of ribs and enjoying the music we headed back to the house for games and birthday cake. 🎂
On the final day Parker made us a delicious and hearty breakfast before we headed out to the lake. We finished off the weekend by spending a few hours on a pontoon boat checking out the sights and wildlife on Leesville Lake.
It was everything I could have asked for in a birthday weekend. Having fun adventures with my adult children will always be at the top of my list of things I love to do.
I am grateful to be able to have such a fun and wonderful tradition and that my children love it as well. 🙏
I wonder where we will end up next year. 🤔

I hope everyone in the USA got to enjoy yesterday’s holiday. ❤️🤍💙
Since we are still in Fergie in Retrograde for my posts we’re heading back to Father’s Day.
We spent our day a little different than in years past. Typically it’s the last day of our camping trip together, but this year our trip was a week earlier on my birthday weekend. (next post 😉)
While on my birthday trip we were talking about how it had been awhile since any of us went bowling so that became the Father’s Day plan. 🎳
My nephew Cole and his friend Josh happened to be in town so I adopted them for the day as well. 🤗
We had a great time and made great time.
With four bowlers in each lane and everyone eager for their next turn there was no time wasted. (Except when the machine would occasionally malfunction after I bowled.) 💪😏💥
We ended up getting in 3 1/2 frames in two hours. 😁 And even more importantly we all got to enjoy each other’s company without anyone being too competitive.
A great way to spend Fathers Day and as my daughter in law Parker said, “ A day to celebrate the four amazing humans I raised.”

Happy Summer Holidays Everyone! ☀️🫶🎉

Hey it’s July and I realized I didn’t make a single post in June. Since Mercury is in Retrograde I decided I should be too. So my posts will be chronologically backward to share some of the highlights of a very busy May & June. 🥳
Last Sunday I woke up early, jumped in the van and headed to Chicago to see my sister and nephew, knowing I’d be making the 6 hour drive home the very next morning. I was wondering if I was crazy for doing so, but when the Chicago skyline appeared and the song “Who You Share it With” came on I knew I made the right choice. 🤗
The day in Chicago started with a Whitesox game. From there we checked out several different places in the city. Enjoying food, drinks and games along the way. After a nice hearty meal at Kabobi I finally got to see my sister’s apartment.
From there we took a nice stroll along the water of the North Branch Chicago River and enjoying each other’s company and the light of the full moon. 🌝

Just finished my first Showcase performance on Sunday. I’ll wait for the official release of the staff/instructors formation to share that.
During a break for social dancing I got to dance a nightclub two step with my Mom.

The song was perfect too. I literally would not be alive without my Mother. 💕

Hope everyone is having a great May! 🌺

Happy Earth Day photo dump for ya’ll since I haven’t posted in a month. If you didn’t catch my stories from a few weeks ago life has been busy. In a good kind of way.
My weekdays are filled with Landscaping, Dancing, Cats & Dogs while my weekends include Hiking, Yoga, Dancing, Family, Cats & Dogs.
At one point I said to my roommate, “My legs are sore.” Which he replied, “You say that every day.” 😅
It’s a good king of sore though. Just my muscles growing stronger. I rest when I need to and have found a greater appreciation for yoga and the relief it gives stretching out those muscles.
I haven’t been posting much because when I sit still with nothing to do I usually close my eyes. 😴 With all the meditation I’ve done and all the Yoga Nidra , I’ve become pretty good at the short power naps and directing the healing energy to the areas needed. 😌
It’s actually pretty cool realizing how times in my life previously have prepared me for this moment. While I may be busy, this is certainly not the most stressful time I’ve had to endure. Hiking has always been a tool for putting me in the moment. All that walking I did especially when I was averaging 20K steps a day prepared my legs for this. All the yoga has helped with separating each moment for what it is, having the flexibility to do the landscaping and dancing and that mind and body stuff that everyone keeps talking about. 😉 Reiki has helped with tapping into the energy that exists beyond my body and directing it where needed. And doing the things I enjoy and love not only keeps me going, but also puts me in the present moment.
Just the other day I was talking to my friend Tara and she asked if I was feeling overwhelmed yet. I had to think about it and replied, “I don’t think I have time to feel overwhelmed because there’s always something else to do.”
The addition of becoming a Ballroom Dancing Instructor has been such a worthwhile experience. Not only is it fun and great exercise, constantly learning new dances has got my brain working to the max. There have been nights where I knew I couldn’t learn any more moves because my mind was maxed out.
Just doing what I can and

Smiling because I get to post my first Wildflower & Waterfall Wednesday of 2026, and because I got to hike on a trail I’ve never been on before, and I had the great company of my friend “Trail Mix”
Hard to believe this was only a few days ago on a 70 degree Sunday hike ☀️🥾 after these last few days in the 20’s. 🌬️🥶❄️
Grateful that we enjoyed the Sun when we had it and headed towards the Ohio-Kentucky border to hopefully see some wildflowers. Ohio Hanging Rock Preserve has been on my Ohio bucket list since it opened. After reading the reviews I thought it’d be best to hike it with a friend. Turns out the trail wasn’t as treacherous as advertised, but I’m still glad I waited to hike it. Not only was this a great day for hiking, I got to experience it with my friend and we got to ooh and aah at the beautiful nature together. 😯😲🌸🌿🪨

Finishing up my Waterfall Week on a Friday with a waterfall that is dear to me that I visited on Wednesday. It was the perfect setting for a rainy week of chasing waterfalls on this particularly wet and rainy day.
It was one of those kinda days where ya keep checking the radar and hourly forecast predictions even though they change every few minutes. 🌧️☔️😅🌦️🌧️
Fortunately Honey Run Falls accommodates these types of days because the waterfall is easily accessible being close to the parking lot. There was a break in the rain when I arrived, 🙏 got some pics with the falls and then started to hike. When I reached the river the rain really picked up and I headed back.
On the way home there was another break in the rain so I checked and stopped by Morris Woods and got to have the experience of walking on a floating boardwalk. 😄
Sometimes to enjoy the flow of the falls you have to deal with the fall of the rain. ☯️

On another note let’s talk about the name of these falls. 🤔 I know a Run 🏞️ is another name for a stream in Ohio and Honey 🍯 is sweet, but when you put the two together it takes on a different meaning.
If I were to yell “Honey Run!”
What would you do?

Thanks for joining me on this unofficial week of waterfalls that I so aptly named WATERFALL WEEK 💦🙌💦
