20 years ago my I created the DZ as a place to be yourself. To be creative, to be open, to free your mind from the surrounding pressures of the world. I was 15 years old and was seeking connections and freedom of the soul. I always wanted to be a musician, a builder, a creative in every way. I didn’t know that the DZ would stimulate the creative growth that we all needed. I didn’t know DZ Records (2010) and DZ Fest (2012) would happen. I didn’t know that the people around me would love, support, and appreciate the DZ so much. Yet, it did happen and it did grow organically beyond anyone’s wildest dreams.
I’m extremely grateful and proud of what happened 20 years ago in my childhood backyard. It has changed my life forever, in ways I could not begin to imagine. Thank you to the tens of thousands of people that have come to the DZ, DZ Records, and DZ Fest. I hope the next 20 years are as beautiful and memorable as the last 20 years.
The DZ represents the wholesome and loving nature of us as a community. It was never about how much money you have, how many titles you have, where you are from, how popular you are, or how intelligent you are. It is about community and creativity. Friendships and collaborations. Conversations and experiences. It is about love.
I could not have done it without my amazing friends, family, and the amazing patrons. Thank you all!
