The boys and girls track and field teams each finished their seasons at the state championships — May 28-30 for boys and May 21-23 for girls — after multiple runners earned first or second at the sectional championships. Among those who competed at state, Taara Sajdeh was the only runner to advance past her preliminary heat.

The boys tennis team finished tied for 14th place out of 66 schools at the IHSA State Championship at Palatine High School May 28-30, concluding its first season in the larger 2A division.

Five players qualified for the state tournament: Tyler Chang and Kieran Mulangi, doubles; Arjun Sawhney and Chris Williams, doubles; Nick Gulyayev, singles.

UPDATE: In response to the administration’s decision to fly only the American flag, a group of students independently hoisted a pride flag on the Blaine Courtyard flagpole on the morning of June 3.

The editors-in-chief have decided to replace the previous photo accompanying this story due to student concern. The previous photo was taken by a Midway staff member who was invited by the participating students to cover the event, which took place at 8:15 a.m. on June 3.

After staying up late at a friend’s house in mid-May, junior Theo Lach came to school with a pounding headache. To provide some relief, he took some Advil and his headache went away shortly after.

For Theo and dozens of other students, this is a regular routine. However, health professionals suggest that students approach taking medication with caution as they may be unaware of the risks of taking OTC medications.

Since 2022, students have gathered each June in the Blaine Courtyard to raise a pride flag on the school flagpole. The practice of raising a pride flag to recognize LGBTQ+ people was started by lower school students, who advocated to school administrators. But that won’t happen this June.
