What do you do when you need penguin sounds for the upcoming film “Christmas at the Zoo?” You go to , of course! 🐧

Sound Designer Victoria Salazar was outfitted with a backpack of recording equipment to capture specific penguin noises (flaps, feet, & calls) and general environment ambience. After prepping all the gear and blocking where she wanted to record from, Victoria worked with the Zoo’s team to float throughout the habitat during our morning visit and was able to get up close and personal with a few curious Humboldt penguins!

A massive thank you to Brookfield Zoo’s staff for welcoming us and being so wonderful, as well as Very Merry Entertainment for sending us on the job! We love creating immersive audio worlds, so getting to capture these specific SFX to enhance the story is one of our favorite and BEST parts of the job. 🎙️🩷🔊

It’s always a good day when and crew drop by, and even better when we get to work with him on an upcoming film - “Christmas at the Zoo!”

Flanked by Composer Devin Delaney and Sound Designer Stosh Tuszynski, Rob is a masterful addition to the post-sound crew, and it was amazing to collaborate with him yet again.

Thanks for stopping into the studio, and we hope to see you again soon!🖤🎸

A massive CONGRATULATIONS to the entire “Stages” cast & crew! Not only did the film premiere at SXSW 2026, the film took home the “Best of Texas” Award! 🌟

Noisefloor completed Foley services for the film, in which “A year after his band’s chaotic split, Ben Garza embarks on his debut solo tour. Touring life has changed as he navigates it with his loyal tour manager Rita and his scene-stealing opener Jessie.”

The film’s world was full of rich musical textures to add emphasis to, and our Foley Artist Katie Waters, MPSE got to (literally) step into the shoes of 15+ characters to complete the footsteps cues for the film alone. Alongside the vital prop to the film, Ben’s guitar, the Foley cues provided a road map for our  Foley Artist and Foley Recordist, Bryen Hensley, to work in perfect tandem to capture each touch & movement!

A single movie can have thousands of cues, and the Foley can clue the audience into the  characters’ headspace without directly telling them through dialogue - and THAT’S the magic of immersive Foley. 👞🔊

That mix stage feeling! 🤩

Re-Recording Mixer Victoria Salazar elaborates on how she gets in the mixing zone for new films. Depending on the project, “Sometimes it’s helpful to mix the easier things first, like backgrounds or adding reverb to the dialogue. Other times, it’s helpful to take a step back and get away from the screen. Like going on a little walk or seeing what Stosh or Ashton are up to around the studio.”

Ear fatigue is REAL, and taking breaks and coming back with fresh ears will save you more time in the long run! 🔊🎧🎛️

It’s always a joy to listen to passionate sound professionals talk about the craft, and the Big Sound at Big Shoulders panel, presented by MPSE and DePaul University, was a perfect afternoon of conversation and engagement with Chicago filmmakers. 🎬🌆

Moderated by Korey Pereira, MPSE, and joined by panelists Michelle LeDuc, Cory Coken, MPSE, and Kevin Cagnolatti, MPSE, attendees listened to a discussion on workflows, current media, and historical developments in our industry. Wrapping up with a Q&A from guests, those who came were invited to chat with the panelists in further conversation following the session.

Both enlightening and inspiring, the event was a perfect culmination of shared enthusiasm and excitement for the world of post-audio. Thank you to MPSE and DePaul for hosting a wonderful panel discussion and fostering fervent conversation - it was the perfect way to kick off the weekend!

Join us at Big Teeth Small Shorts Film Festival — a celebration of bold storytelling in a short amount of run-time. 🦷🎬

BTSSFF is a festival that champions and screens a collection of Small Shorts (91 sec–5 min) and Micro Shorts (90 sec or less). We love their commitment to filmmakers and the belief that powerful stories don’t need long runtimes or massive budgets—just a strong voice and a captivated audience.

Great films made at any point in a creator’s journey, shown for a live audience that’s ready to lean in. In a festival landscape where “shorts” can still mean 40 minutes, BTSSFF creates vital space for filmmakers and proves that every frame matters.

Head to https://filmfreeway.com/BTSSFF/tickets to grab your tickets! We’ll see you there! 🎉🍿
