2nd Annual Tilles Center for the Performing Arts Jazz Fest with 10 Time Grammy Winner Arturo Sandoval Music

The legendary trumpeter had reflective thoughts about his Cuban roots the influence of Dizzy Gillespie and passion rather than talent as his driving role in his musical career. The event featured live jazz, food trucks, instrument making and a petting zoo. The event took place on multiple stages across the Long Island University Post campus.

The Stowe Jazz Festival July 18-20 Celebrates Women Bandleaders

The Stowe Jazz Festival celebrated with all women bandleaders headlining this year’s lineup. Camila Meza , guitarist, singer and composer from Chile, opened the festivities Friday. Sisters Ingrid Jensen , trumpet player and Christine Jesen , saxophone player followed. Other performers included Jennifer Stafford Wharton with her band Jennifer Wharton’s Bonegasm , Maucha Adnet who sang in Brazilian Portuguese, Sheryl Bailey , Sarah Cabral and grammy winner Nicole Zuraitis.

The album features Guaraldi on piano, electric piano, clavinet, ARP String Ensemble, and Rhythm Ace Drum Machine, Seward McCain on bass, Mark Rosengarden on drums and guiro.

The vinyl is a Zoetrope album, when the record plays at 45RPM, the illustrations
on the record become animated.

The 28-minute album was released July 11th, 2025.

Mike sat down with Sheri Smith during the closing party of her gallery exhibit showcasing years of live jazz sketching in Chicago. May of you might have seen her in a club, seated in front, with her very specific set up (more on that in the interview). She is one of a handful of artists in Chicago who capture jazz in motion at clubs all across the city.
