Moody Media Lab THEOLOGY + CREATIVITY + COMMUNITY

The media lab develops and integrates creativity through both modern and classic communication tools: photography, videography, graphic design, fine art, speech, performance, new radio, fiction and non-fiction writing. What makes the Moody Media Lab unique is the opportunity for students to develop their theology, technique, and technology in collaboration with one another, growing in ways that wo

uld be impossible independently, stretching what they thought themselves capable of, and even creating beyond what was possible before.

We are thrilled to announce a new Master’s Degree in Theology & the Arts starting Fall of 2026!

This program invites students to develop their theological imagination and attend to the revelation of God in and through the arts for the flourishing of the church and the life of the world.

Christian artists, musicians, storytellers, and media professionals will be equipped with a solid theological foundation for their craft. Each student selects one of the following four tracks as a specialization: (1) worship & liturgical arts (for worship leaders and musicians), (2) the practicing artist (for visual artists and filmmakers), (3) wordcraft (for writers and storytellers), or (4) communication and culture (for communications professionals and media theorists).

View the attached for more information and prospective courses. More details will be made available soon.

We would love to see an exceptional inaugural class of returning and new students. Please help us spread the word and let us know if you have any interest in this exciting program.

Every now and again, this professor needs to get out of the classroom and pick up a camera. Just had a special experience as a volunteer videographer practicing what I preach; capturing a moment without distracting from it. 📸 My dad, a professional photographer, used to refer to photography as "memory insurance". How true!

We are opening a next-generation educational ministry media lab for our students in brand-new studio spaces in downtown Chicago. A global center for theological creativity, community, imagination, media and the arts.

The new spaces are on the first floor of the Chapman Center and will be opened to the public as part of Founders Day, Friday February 3rd.

Our Story

Welcome to the Moody Media Lab, a fellowship of gifted message makers, signal shapers, content creators, and storytellers within the undergraduate Communications program at the Moody Bible Institute. We believe deeply in theologically trained media artists.

This community is working together to develop and integrate creativity through both modern and classic communication tools: photography, videography, graphic design, fine art, speech, drama, broadcast, and writing. We use media practices to celebrate a creative God, advance the message of the Gospel, serve the global Church, and create meaningful culture. Let us assure you: your gifts and talents are not mistakes. They matter deeply and were meant to be used to make a difference in the lives of others.

What makes the Moody Media Lab unique is the opportunity for diverse students to develop theology, theory, technique, and technology in collaboration with one another. Students grow in ways that would be impossible independently, stretch what they thought themselves capable of, and even create beyond what was possible before.

The world needs the ministry of theologically trained media artists equipped to make meaningful messages. Will you join us? The media lab runs on real-world projects and our creatives are in high demand. If you would like to enlist the creative talent of the media lab for your organization, church, or ministry needs, simply contact us with your proposal and a project manager will be in touch with all the details.
