About a week ago… just about the time I start making plans for my upcoming broadcast, I saw this and smiled. Thought about many things and individuals that make me laugh…Anything that might cross my path, like this, is woven into the fabric of the Radio Show. I found some great vinyl comedy relics I will share. Also was struck as I watched a post made by Iris Dement. She lives in Iowa. I didn’t know that, but I know her music and that Love is at center. And she always makes me think of John Prine, the singer songwriter mailman from Maywood. Jeff Tweedy is all over the airwaves and that’s great. We used to live in the same neighborhood. He sounds as good as ever and I might jump on that bandwagon 😀. Taylor Morse, a musical guest of “SD w/ Di” is playing this afternoon at Phyliss’ Musical Inn. I always say: “Go check out some local live music!” And I am there, in spirit, of course. My friends in a most excellent cover band, Expo 76, are having an album release at Fitzgeralds this week (Wednesday) and I am hoping to attend. They already told me they will join me in the studio. I already play original efforts from the members of the band. We are in the autumnal peak here in Chicago and Chicagoland. Very soon, I will be heading up to Lake Forest College; my Alma Mater’s radio station, WMXM.org, 88.9 fm is surrounded by fall beauty in all directions. I’m leaving time to enjoy the leaves and sunshine. Da Bears’ Game goes Live right now-ish, and should be concluded before I go on. Go Bears! Their headquarters are up there, on the North Shore. They used to practice on the football field at LFC. Me n my college friends used to watch them practice back in The Day. Artist, Historian, and Author, Tom McKeon is my special guest this afternoon. We will be playing some music, mostly vinyl, old school. He and some friends will join me in his “childhood stomping grounds” of Beautiful Lake Forest Illinois. It’s all tied in. Alrighty, I gotta wrap it. Di
On a rainy Chicago October morning yesterday, about a thousand fans friends and family of Beverly native George Wendt gathered at the corner of 92nd and Bell St to honor one of its own. Forever the street will be known as Honorary George Wendt Way. If you drive by, make sure you greet it with a shout out of "Norm". Photo:Bill Figel.
