Unfortunately, high-speed car accidents are not uncommon. Statistics have shown time and time again that speeding is a factor in nearly one third of all fatal car accidents. High speed accidents kill thousands of people every year across the United States, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Thousands of speeding tickets are written every day throughout the United States, and one in every six drivers receives a speeding ticket each year.

High-speed accidents have been linked with several different causes and types of car accidents, including drunk driving accidents, rollover accidents, and rear-end crashes where a speeding driver simply didn't have time to stop or regain control of their vehicle before an accident.

The outcome of a high-speed accident can be particularly catastrophic, with a high-speed impact resulting in a variety of severe car accident injuries that can range from whiplash, broken bones and fractures to traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries.

Crashes involving big rigs and other large trucks can happen anywhere in Arkansas. According to statistics from the Arkansas Highway Safety Office, 13 people died in accidents involving large trucks in 2009.

More recently, in 2012, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported 85 large trucks were involved in fatal accidents in Arkansas. These large trucks comprised an alarming number of fatal accidents that year - 11.5 percent. It's an alarming number when put in perspective: The NHTSA reports large trucks account for 4 percent of all registered vehicles. There appears to be a higher number of fatal truck accidents in Arkansas than in most other states.

According to the NHTSA, trucks accounted for 8 percent of all vehicles involved in accidents in which people die. That is more than 3 percentage points lower than in Arkansas.

According to Jonesboro Personal Injury Lawyers Bobby and Brett Mcdaniel (McDaniel Law Firm, PLC), "There seems to be a higher number of fatal truck accidents in arkansas, we’re committed to making arkansas a better place to work for everyone."

A car crash on Wednesday, November 14 in Mount Houston resulted in the death of one child and serious injuries to another. At approximately 1:40 PM, the 2007 Chevrolet in which the two children were riding struck the back of a Dodge Ram, spun around and struck another vehicle.

An 8-year-old boy who was seated in the front seat died at the scene, and the 5-year-old in the back sustained traumatic head and neck injuries. The children’s father, 30-year-old Fernando Carcamo, is now facing felony charges.

Witnesses said the Chevrolet was traveling at a high speed, and authorities stated that neither child was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The children had likely just been picked up from school, and the hours before and after school are times of elevated risk for kids on the road.

According to Houston personal injury attorneys at Smith & Hassler, “This tragedy very likely could have been prevented. Both parents and other road users need to be mindful of safety.”

A Toyota Tacoma traveling in the opposite lane struck the four children, killing three siblings and seriously injuring the fourth child, who was airlifted to a hospital in Fort Wayne. The driver of the pickup truck has been charged with three counts of reckless homicide and one count of disregarding a stop sign and causing injury.

Even though it is illegal in all 50 states to pass a school bus that is stopped to unload or load children, the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) reports that the hour before and hour after school – when school buses are loading and unloading children – are the deadliest times of day for school-age pedestrians.
