I just found out that Lou Koller - vocalist for NYC hardcore legends Sick Of It All - passed away yesterday at the age of 59. SOIA is my favorite NYHC band, bar none. The first time I saw them was at The Marquee (Detroit MI, RIP) in 1992, I interviewed the band for Jam Rag Magazine and 89.3 WHFR.FM in the parking lot of the McDonald's directly across the street. What I remember most was them telling me they spent most of their time listening to Sade in the van while on the road, which boosted my respect for them tenfold. The last time I saw SOIA was September 2022 at Cobra Lounge with Agnostic Front. Lou is/was/will always be one the greatest frontmen in hardcore, hard and loud as f**k without the knuckle-dragging macho posturing that normally comes with the HC scene. Blood, Sweat, and No Tears remains one of the greatest hardcore albums ever put to tape. A huge loss, but an incredible back catalog in his wake. Thank you for the music, Lou...and a huge amount of respect.
