This industry does have some perks. We get invited to document some very interesting people and places, that aren’t usually accessible to the public, and help tell those stories. Last week we where brought in to help tell the story of Larry Klairmont, a life long Chicagoan. Now retired and with some extra money, he created the Klairmont Kollections, the largest private collection of classic and collector cars in the Mid West. A collection that is, at the time of this posting, not yet open to the public.
Standing amid the collection of over 300 cars left me with at feeling of awe. Even on the second day, when I walked in to his main showroom, I literally faltered in my steps and needed a moment to process the scale. In such a place as this, and even with a tight shooting schedule, all the members of the crew found some time to take the collection in. To see cars that run the gamut of automotive history. From small euro cars for the masses, to the American behemoths of old. From works by custom coach builders to the newest super cars, Larry’s collection has something to interest almost everyone.
The only thing more interesting then the cars is the stories Larry tells about his life. From a WWII marine in the pacific theater, to a determined business man his life seams to hardly have had a dull moment. And this includes his acquisitions for the collection, his stores about the auto auctions are fascinating. Being able to help tell stories such as this are part of the reason we do what we do. We help interesting people, present their story to the world.
PS. All the cars are in ready to drive condition.
Thanks to Horizons Communications Group, with Richard Roberts and Mallory Sohmer for bringing us in on this project.
