Yesterday a legend of our industry passed away. English designer Rupert Neve has died at 94.

He was the founder of Neve Electronics, which is still considered the pinnacles of studio technology to this day. With his wife Evelyn, they also founded the company Focusrite, which grew into a giant in its own right.

Last year was devastating for the business of electronic music and club culture, and as we step into 2021, the prospects of quick recovery look bleak. Club owners, festivals, promoters, DJs, artists, managers, labels, agencies, and the multitude of supporting personal will get squeezed to breaking point as the reset continues to get pushed back.

Since the ’90s, we’ve seen the genre go through positive and negative cycles. We are keeping the faith for a return to normal by the summer, but this will be mostly dependent on the masses adhering to social distancing and a successful rollout of the vaccine. It will be our biggest challenge yet.

Like everyone else, Mikrokosmic has had to adjust and adapt to the new reality of survival, but we have a calling to work proactively to help rebuild our business. We are committed to continuing to help drive this community forward and believe our internal assessment of our values will help inspire you to make the necessary changes and adjustments to your approach to business. We will launch an initiative shortly to reflect our beliefs and promises and emerge positively from this crisis.

One of the silver linings is that there has been some fantastic and progressive music created during COVID. Our responsibility is to ensure that the business side continues to evolve in parallel, alongside our friends.
