Janazah (funeral) service for Mother Khadijah Farrakhan 🙏🏽

What began with a call and response, "Takir! Allahu Akbar" followed by prayer, mourners from all over celebrated the life and legacy of Mother Khadijah Farrakhan, 1st Lady of the Nation of Islam, and wife of Minister Louis Farrakhan.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, Stevie Wonder, Janet Jackson, Father Michael Pfleger, family, friends, and many more were all in attendance.

Mother Khadijah Farrakhan was laid to rest on Friday in the Oakwood Cemetary on the south side of Chicago. She was 90 years old.

Public visitation to be held today for Mother Khadijah Farrakhan, first lady of the Nation of Islam, wife of Minister Louis Farrakhan - leader of the Nation of Islam.

She will lie in repose at the Mosque Maryam located on 73rd and Stony Island from 10am-8pm.

Her funeral service is scheduled to take place tomorrow, July 3rd, at 11am at the Mosque Maryam.

The Nation of Islam is mourning the loss of a well-respected leader in their community. Khadijah Muhammad, the wife of the Nation of Islam's leader, Minister Louis Farakhan has died.

Affectionately known as the 1st Lady of the Nation of Islam; Mother Khadijah was personified as a devoted wife of 72 years, loving mother of nine children, and a devoted follower of Elijah Muhammad, acting as a pillar of stability for her family and community.

Her death was announced by the Nation of Islam yesterday. Her cause of death is unknown. She was 90 years old.

Today is National ENS Sign Awareness Day. Highlighting life-saving importance of the blue-and-white Emergency Notification System signs posted at U.S. railroad crossings across the country.

Officials say Illinois has the second largest rail system of any state in the US with over 14 thousand rail crossings and bridges statewide, and that all motorists and pedestrians should know about these potentially life-saving signs.

After multiple calls made to 311 for tree debris removal, residents decide to take matters into their own hands to close pending requests.

Volunteers are out helping clean up areas that have not been taken care of since last week’s storms.

Congratulations to President Barack Obama, 1st lady Michelle Obama, the Obama Foundation, and the City of Chicago on the grand opening of the Barack Obama Presidential Center!

The Barack Obama Presidential Center opened to the public today on Juneteenth.

Featuring a library, museum, park, and basketball court, the new campus showcases American history leading up through the Barack Obama era.

With an expectancy of 1 million visitors a year, tickets are sold out through November.

In case you didn't know, here's some info: Juneteenth is an official U.S. federal holiday celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States.

Also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, or Emancipation Day, it marks the historic date in 1865 when Union major general Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation and announce that all enslaved people were free.
