My daughter is following in her mother’s footsteps and has become quite an enthusiastic thrifter. She recently told me about a search she has been on for a “swimming pool chip and dip” set. As avid a thrifter as I consider myself to be, I had never heard of this.
Yesterday, on an impulsive whim, we decided to do some random thrifting. I suggested we go to Out of the Closet, so off we went. As soon as we walked into the store, as I was looking at something, I hear “OMG mom! They have it!!!!
And there it was, a complete set. She scooped it up as fast as she could. Felt meant to be for sure. The thrill of treasure hunting!

This was my great-grandmother's rocking chair. When I first got it from my mother it had been painted with black lacquer. Someone had thrown a wet raincoat over it and the paint was ruined, so I decided to strip off the paint. I was totally shocked to find this beautiful wood and inlay under that ugly black paint. I don't know anything about where it came from (late 1800s to early 1900s) and can't find anything that looks like it.

So I’ve been searching for a vintage slow cooker because the new ones are horrible. The new ones have 2 main settings - “boil” and “rolling boil.” Ugh. And if it’s going to sit on my kitchen counter for several hours, it should be cute!
Anyways, I told myself today that I didn’t need to go into my neighborhood Goodwill because I had just established a new, more stringent budget for myself. Boy, am I glad I didn’t listen because look what I found - a vintage Sears Merry Mushroom slow cooker!!!!
It’s in “vintage” condition but I love it so much. Going to give it a good scrub and then off to buy pot roast fixings!
Oh, it was $14.99 🙂

We are doing a 70’s themed basement and I’ve been searching for a perfect couch for months. I found a “placeholder” for a while and had sort of given up on finding a great one I could afford. The term champagne taste on a beer budget is an accurate description of my life (and why I love thrifting).
Imagine my delight when I popped into goodwill for a quick look and this beauty was sitting right in the front. Angels sang. A soft breeze blew my hair. A pair of women in their 80’s remarked just how ugly it was as I stood with a single tear rolling down my cheek 🤣
$80 later I grabbed that bad boy immediately. And then went back for the matching chairs.
Moral of the story: always go to the thrift store ✨

My boyfriend saved this from being trashed! It’s a vintage American Airlines minis holder. Our guess is 1970s based on the bottles inside.
Edit: Yes most of the bottles are unopened from what I can tell! Some have simply evaporated. This was found outside on the sidewalk along side a bag of full size bottles. A tenant of my boyfriend, I believe, was the one putting the stuff outside.
