The Soul Jurnee is still celebrating Freddie Jackson, “A Quiet Storm Legend.” 🎶💚

When we talk about Quiet Storm, we have to talk about Freddie Jackson! That smooth voice, those love songs, and the kind of music that made you turn the lights down and turn the radio up.

The Quiet Storm tradition began in 1976 at WHUR 96.3 FM in Washington, D.C., with Melvin Lindsey helping introduce a late-night sound that would become a staple on Black radio stations across the country.

Freddie Jackson became one of the voices that defined that sound. From “Rock Me Tonight” to “You Are My Lady” and “Have You Ever Loved Somebody,” his music helped set the mood for a whole generation.

We are devastated to hear about the passing of Freddie Jackson, just three days after he celebrated his 70th birthday. 💔

Freddie Jackson was one of the voices that made 1980s R&B what it was. The Harlem native came up singing gospel at White Rock Baptist Church before giving us “Rock Me Tonight (For Old Times Sake),” “You Are My Lady,” “Tasty Love,” “Have You Ever Loved Somebody,” “Jam Tonight,” “Nice ’N’ Slow,” and “Love Me Down.”

His 1985 debut, Rock Me Tonight, went platinum, reached Number One on the R&B albums chart, and gave us the title song, which spent six weeks at Number One on the R&B chart.

Freddie’s honors included an American Music Award win for Favorite Soul/R&B Single for “Nice ’N’ Slow,” two Grammy nominations in 1986 for Best New Artist and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for “You Are My Lady,” two platinum albums with Rock Me Tonight and Just Like the First Time, and two gold albums with Don’t Let Love Slip Away and Do Me Again. He gave us 10 Number One R&B hits in all.

We had the honor of meeting Freddie at a festival last year, and he gave us a rose. That rose is getting framed now. 🌹

We are praying for his family, loved ones, and every fan who grew up with his music. The Soul Jurnee will certainly do our part to keep his legacy alive.

Here at The Soul Jurnee, we absolutely love us some Bernie Mac!! 💛

Today, we celebrate the one and only Bernie Mac on what would have been his 69th birthday. Chicago gave us somebody special with Bernie. He could make you laugh with one look, one line, or one of those talks straight to America.

We also know Bernie had great taste in music. The Bernie Mac Show always had the soul and funk playing in the background:
