Allegedly Memphis rapper Pooh Sheisty, his father and seven others have been accused in a federal indictment of kidnapping and robbing 3 men at gunpoint earlier this year at a Dallas-area music studio, authorities said Thursday. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Texas, the alleged incident stemmed from a contract dispute involving Gucci Mane's record label, 1017 Records. An indictment unsealed Thursday identifies the victims only by their initials. One victim, identified as R.D., is described as the owner of 1017 Records, the label founded by rapper Gucci Mane, whose legal name is Radric Delantic Davis.
Federal prosecutors allege the group kidnapped and robbed the victims during the confrontation. Additional details about the incident, including the exact date, were not immediately released.
Assistant Special Agent Jeremy Wright of the FBI's Dallas field office said one suspect was taken into custody in Frisco, Texas, while others were apprehended in Memphis. Federal agents were also at Pooh Shiesty's home Thursday as part of the investigation and executed a raid.
Publicists for Gucci Mane did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Pooh Shiesty also did not respond to a request for comment. Pooh Shiesty was on home confinement at the time of the alleged incident following a prior federal conviction in Florida for fi****ms conspiracy.
Gucci Mane is considered a pioneer of trap music, alongside Atlanta rappers T.l. and Jeezy. He rose to prominence in the mid-2000s with the single "Icy" and has since built an extensive catalog of music. He has also played a role in developing artists such as Young Thug.
