These outlets are installed way too deep right?
My contractor says it's fine and we can just use caterpillar shims and long screws. Once the backsplash goes in we're looking at probably 1.5" of shims which doesn't strike me as being up to code exactly.

My gut is that they installed these at the wrong depth and he's trying to act like this is normal.

I think minimum we need to install box extenders, but it's hard to even find any deep enough đŸ˜‚

I'm right, right?

Is this ok? Neutral wire leading to sub panel has part of the wire strands cut off.
We had an electrician install a sub panel and NEMA 14-50 outlet for our Tesla mobile connector. The connector has been reducing charging rate because of a heating issue these last few weeks. Would this trimmed neutral wire that leads to the sub panel have anything to do with the overheating of the mobile connector? Original panel is 150 amps in a house built in 1989 in the north Texas area for reference.

Edit: Since this is not ok, what should I expect when I have an electrician come out to fix the issue? Also, is this a fire hazard or anything major to worry about until it’s fixed?

How to pull wire through tight EMT connection
I need to get 9 14AWG wires to each of these 2-gang boxes attached to my main panel. Application is for AFCI deadfronts I want to combine with the tandem breakers so that I can AFCI protect four circuits without using up the last two slots that I want to preserve for a stove replacement or EV charger.

Is getting 9 wires through the conduits even possible? I tried with solid, I could barely get 4 wires through. I could use stranded, obviously it's more flexible, but also slightly larger.

Alternatively, I could go back to Home Depot and try to find some combination of fittings to put a second conduit on each one and do 5 wires (one circuit) per conduit but it would look pretty weird.

Ignore the interior design crime of using an ivory plate with a white DF AF/GF Duplex Receptable and the disaster on the left size of the box, I fished out all the neutrals, did the right side of the box, and ran out of time to do these AFCIs after several failed attempts to pull wire through to the boxes and had to temporarily re-connect the circuits with several extra feet of wire to the tandems.

This looks hella expensive. What is it?

Honestly asking: HOW IN THE WORLD is this thing still running!?
Pretty sure my grandparents put this in around the 60s/70s. Outdoor unit is about 30yo, I call it the rust box because the cage has disintegrated into dust, but it's still working so they won't replace it.

I'm in an apprenticeship 6 months now, and all the units we've worked on, I've never come across something this old that works as well as it does. They never have PMS, the filter was at least 6 years old, yet it still keeps going.

The common answer here is going to be well, "things were made to last back then". But I genuinely want to know what exactly it is that keeps this thing going. Because the amount of units that I've replaced that aren't even 10 years old, this thing blows me away and I just want to understand it better so I can do some PM on it. But at the same time I'm afraid to just jump in and start cleaning it up for fear it will tank itself.

Thoughts?

Capacitor question
Last night the AC was running but every few minutes it would buzz and the fan would slow and then continue. Shut it off and this morning found this. Read up on here and discharged and replaced(trimmed wire and replaced connector as well). AC is up and running now thankfully.

My question is do new capacitors need a little charge or something like that? Reason being, when I replaced it, the first time the fan turned on for a few seconds then shut off. Turned thermostat and breakers on and off and the second time it worked for a like 2 minutes then shut off. Reset/turned everything on and off a third time then it finally worked. Any word reason for this?
