Blacklight Magazine is a publication of the University of Chicago's Organization of Black Students.

Blacklight Magazine provides a platform for the voices of underrepresented and traditionally marginalized students on campus. If you have any questions or concerns, or are interesting in submitting your work, we can be reached at [email protected]. We are looking for anything from editorials, sports or news articles, and reviews, to original creative writing and visual art.

Artists, writers, creatives all around, Blacklight Magazine presents our newest issue theme: Wax & Wane!

Over time most things grow and shrink. People, communities, and landscapes change
slowly but distinctly. Blacklight wants to know about your cycles, phases, and shifting
expressions. What parts of yourself are expanding? What parts are eroding?

How about your community? Are there cycles of trauma you feel trapped in? Or cycles of triumph that inspire the
slow march toward change? Or, maybe, consider the moon more directly. What is night to you and what is the light within it? What does it mean to be ‘new’ or ‘full’ or ‘half’?

How do you reflect? And how does that reflection change over time? Does change surprise you the moment
you look up, or do you constantly feel the air shifting around you? Do you concede to slow,
circular change or do you reject it entirely? However you Wax and Wane, tell us about it, in any
medium (poetry, prose, art, etc.), for the 2025 issue of Blacklight Magazine.

Blacklight Magazine is looking for models for a photo shoot supporting our upcoming issue Awe. This shoot, taking place in Logan, emphasizes portraiture and modes of perceiving Awe. Blacklight is committed to promoting diversity in all forms - we encourage models of any gender, body, ethnicity to apply!
