Evanescence Was There Before It Blew Up

These photos really are from the February 9, 2003 premiere of Daredevil in Westwood, placing Evanescence right at the beginning of their global breakthrough. Bring Me to Life had already been selected for the film and appeared on Daredevil: The Album, released February 4, just days before the premiere. The song later became the band’s breakout single, officially released in April and eventually reaching No. 1 in the UK and several other countries.

The caption is right about the connection, but Bring Me to Life was not actually written specifically for Daredevil. Amy Lee wrote it years earlier, drawing from an abusive relationship and the experience of meeting Josh Hartzler, who saw through what she was hiding. In a new 2026 interview, Lee revisited the song’s origins and explained how the Daredevil placement helped launch Evanescence into the mainstream. Two decades later, it remains the defining soundtrack moment of the era.
