Congrats to Amy & Grant on their wedding celebration! ππ½β¨ You can check out more of the photos here: https://www.erinskypowell.com/ #/events/ (mobile viewing throws it out of order)
Although irrelevant to the bride & groom - I feel like it's necessary for me to explain some behind the scenes as a Black, immunocompromised photographer. 2021 has been ~interesting~
This past year, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. (I don't really like talking about it because I am more than this disease, and I want to continue living a fruitful life). But, it makes hours and days unpredictable if I will fall victim to an annoyingly spontaneous amount of fatigue, or other symptoms that just make for a bad day. It has put a damper on a lot of things I have wanted to do - the biggest one being photography. I recognized that I can't be out and about for more than an hour or so at a time since sometimes my body makes decisions I can't control.
All of this being said, I am proud of powering through a flare in order to be apart of such a stunning 30 minute micro-wedding. Life is beautiful, even in moments of adversity. I wouldn't be as confident in faking it til I make it (or don't LOL) if it wasn't for my IBD support group at the University of Chicago, friends, and family.
If anyone ever wants to chat about chronic illness, photography, poetry, or all of the above - I am all ears ππ½
