I wish I knew this before going to language school in Japan:

- you’ll feel behind at some point no matter what level you’re at
- understanding Japanese doesn’t always mean you can speak it
- it can be exhausting😣
- some days you’ll feel like you learned nothing
- try to not compare yourself to others
- progress can be slower than you think but it does add up
- speaking it is the best way to learn
- making mistakes is how you learn
- it’s okay to not be perfect!
- one day things will just click
- consistency matters more than talent

What are some challenges you guys faced when learning a new language??

Today we celebrated my twins second baby boy! We grew up doing everything together, sharing everything from cell phones to cars and now our lives look completely different but no matter what I’m grateful to have you by my side through every version of life.

Can’t wait to meet baby Jeremiah🩵

Mt. Fuji is visible for only about 80 days per year!😫

The best time to see Fuji San is during the winter months when humidity is low or early mornings. Maybe next time!

Did you know about this requirement?

It’s a newer requirement as of April 2025 that you need prior Japanese studies to apply to a language school.

Not sure why they have this requirement now, maybe they’re just being stricter on who can get a visa but I think it is beneficial as you’ll be able to do everyday life easier knowing the basics when you first move to Japan and it’ll be helpful when looking for a part-time job.

Follow along for more tips on moving to Japan to study Japanese!
