Our Story
3 years ago. When we began the basic concept for Berwyn Tech Entrepreneurship and Training Center, our idea was simple.
We needed to build a tech training portal/location for the lack of representation of disenfranchised people in our community. Technology has disrupted traditional jobs but also created new and exciting career pathways. Unfortunately, this message of job creation/tech resources is not filtered into black and brown communities? The lack of black & brown, and most importantly women representation in technology jobs is mind blowing. The Mayor of Chicago, IL Rahm Emanuel stated that Chicago is 2nd to Silicon Valley and has raised 220 million in tech startups funds that will be available to Chicagoan entrepreneurs in Technology and those in S.T.E.M..
Black & LatinX make up 7.4 % of Technology jobs in America? Hi-tech jobs in America need to become available to all communities including Chicago suburban working families. Diversity and inclusion, must also exist in technology jobs and in cyberspace...and that is why Berwyn Tech Entrepreneurship Center was created.
