Texas Democratic lawmaker James Talarico is sparking fresh political and moral debate with his comments on faith, government, and reproductive rights.
He stated that he trusts Texas women to make decisions about their own bodies and futures, arguing that such choices should not be controlled by the government. Talarico also connected his position directly to his religious beliefs, saying his faith guides — not conflicts with — his stance on the issue.
He further added that “Jesus never talks about abortion” and that “the Bible is silent on abortion,” using this interpretation to support his view that political authority should not replace personal conscience in deeply private decisions.
His remarks have quickly circulated across political and religious communities, igniting strong reactions from both supporters and critics who disagree on how faith should influence public policy.
Now the debate is once again front and center…
Should religious beliefs shape government laws on abortion — or should personal freedom and medical decisions remain completely separate from politics?
