NEW — News about a drive-by shooting in River North that killed four people and left 14 injured outside of rapper Mello Buckzz’s private mixtape release party compelled longtime Chicago organizer Alvin Anthony to leap into action.

Anthony, a board member for Chicago Votes, is planning a peace walk for 2:00 p.m. on July 4 to bring people together to mourn the victims and unite the community.

“I’m still in disbelief, but we have to bring Chicago together,” Anthony said. “This is not what Chicago is, and this is not what Chicago should be in the national news.”

“This is not what Chicago is,” says one organizer who is planning a July 4th peace walk to unite the community after Wednesday night’s fatal shooting.

NEW — The “snap curfew" is “being sold as a way to ‘protect’ youth. But let’s be clear: this isn’t about safety.”

Together, an organizer and law professor write that the ordinance is about giving Chicago police unchecked power to disappear young people.

“The fight against the ‘snap curfew’ is a fight against homegrown fascism. The same machinery that rips immigrant families apart under President Donald Trump now targets Black and brown youth in Chicago, using fear, lies, and state violence to maintain control.”

City Council is scheduled to vote on the "snap curfew" ordinance on Wednesday.

NEW — Commonwealth Edison customers will see a rate hike this summer that could increase their electricity bills as much as $10 per cycle, a change that consumer affairs advocates say could make or break marginalized customers.

“[It’s] unfortunate, because the people who really can’t afford it the most are going to be affected,” said Scott Onque, pastor at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in South Shore. “Marginalized communities, poor communities, Black and brown communities will have to deal with a $10 increase on their bill, or an estimated $10 increase per month on their bill. And it may sound fractional to some, but you know, $10 could make or break a person, as far as paying their bills in some communities.”

The new rate hike is thanks to PJM, the nation's largest power grid operator.

President Donald Trump said he’d love to send Chicagoans to El Salvador’s “mega prison,” and he meant every wild ass word he said.
