One of the last 4 surviving N/uu speakers, a (>25000 y/o) language spoken by the San people, G***t Seekoei passed away at the age of 86 in May 2020

N|uu is a melody of clicks, often punctuated by exclamation marks when written. With no other fluent speakers in the world apart from G***t's siblings, the language is recognised by the UN as “critically endangered”

Languages do not become endangered over night. In the case of Nu/u , the apartheid government did not allow it to be spoken and gradually people also became ashamed to speak this "bushman's" language

We can not allow African languages to be deemed inferior to "colonial" languages. The preservation of African languages is critical to cultural preservation and identity
