Every dog has his day and so now it is time to spotlight David Buchanan. Dave is, well he's me, if you've ever read a post on the Tavern Tall Tales page then it's a good bet I wrote it. I find it a lot easier to write about the amazing writers, editors and artists of Tavern Tall Tales than to write about myself. I am always inspired by them, I read all their work you see and I feel a deep connection with it. The stories in Tavern Tall Tales remind me of a home cooked meal that was prepared with love. It's to the point I have a hard reading traditionally published books you find at a book store. Those stories seem like a meal consisting of fast food and generic tropes. But that's what sells and as a business owner I get that. For me though, I'll always cherish the stories written by the writers of Tavern Tall Tales but there's also the ones told around the fire each year at the writer's retreat which will sometimes find their way into the magazine. The annual Slaughterville collaboration between the editors is as fun to play in as it is to read. If you've never played Kids on Bikes you should check it out, that's the rule set we use for that campaign and it's perfect for that story. I do well at throwing words at the page, so much so that I had to create a few pen names to hide the fact I was submitting three to four stories per month. All of which were anagrams of my own name. This is why I have so many books published but what is not immediately obvious is that I am continually inspired to write when the others send me pictures of their writing sessions at coffee shops or message me in excitement about a new character they are about to introduce to the story I am hungrily reading and asking them questions about. It's the world building walks and writers club meetings that spur me to write more and more. It's the stories people have sent me over the years, even on deployments, that stick with me and keep me writing. I truly am standing on the shoulders of giants
