🏥 If you’ve driven along Oroville’s Olive Highway recently, you’ve likely noticed the impressive new five-story glass tower rising at Oroville Hospital. This major expansion adds nearly 159,000 square feet and increases bed capacity from 153 to 211, doubling the hospital’s footprint. Designed to meet the region’s growing needs, the tower brings cutting-edge technology, a welcoming environment, and expanded services—including neurosurgery and cardiothoracic surgery.

Among its innovations is Histotripsy, a non-invasive liver cancer treatment available at just 20 hospitals globally. Oroville Hospital has already welcomed patients from as far as Australia.

The hospital also launches its psychiatry residency program this July through The Maguire Neuropsychiatric Institute—the first of its kind in Butte County. With six residents starting this year, the program aims to grow the local medical workforce and improve access to care.

Keep an eye out for updates on this incredible expansion and addition to Butte County!

👨🏻‍⚕️🏎️After 40 years and over 20,000 joint replacements, Dr. Helmuth Jones of Orthopedic Associates of Northern California is retiring—but his impact is far from over.

Dr. Jones grew up in Wyoming, following his physician father on house calls to ranches, where he first glimpsed the rewards of rural medicine. His journey took him from berry fields and construction sites in Hawaii to medical school at OHSU, eventually choosing orthopedics for its hands-on nature.

In 1984, Dr. Jones and his family settled in Paradise, drawn by its small-town charm and the opportunity to provide personal, community-based care. He founded the Feather River Joint Replacement Center of Excellence in 2005, later merging with OANC in 2014. His sons, Dr. Phillip and Dr. Sid Jones, now work alongside him, continuing his legacy.

Though retiring from surgery, Dr. Jones will keep “putting things back together”—this time with vintage race cars. His story reflects a life of purpose, humility, and deep community ties.

👩🏼‍🍳A standout on any list of Chico’s women in business, Shelly Blanshei has helped shape the city’s dining scene for decades. After returning to Chico in 1994, she co-founded Bidwell Perk and later launched the popular tea café, T. Bar, which now has locations in several cities.

Recently, Shelly has shifted her focus toward passion projects, including baking. Inspired by Ina Garten, she envisioned turning her garage into a baking retreat. To bring the dream to life, she enlisted Eric Enns of HIWA Builders. Eric transformed the 380-square-foot garage into a fully functional baking and guest space, complete with a large kitchen, Murphy bed, and private bath.

Eric’s wife, Nikole of Iko Design Studio, brought calm elegance to the space with thoughtful interiors. The result? A seamless backyard extension that feels both creative and cozy.

Shelly now enjoys her new retreat daily and wholeheartedly recommends Eric and Nikole to anyone wanting to create something extraordinary. Scroll through the photos and see why we’re absolutely in love with this beautiful remodel!
