Congrats Diesel! 🚀

Back in 1992, Shaquille O’Neal had to convince his mother to let him leave LSU early for the NBA Draft.

Lucille O’Neal wanted him to stay and finish school first.

But before leaving, he promised her he would come back and earn his degree someday.

Shaq told her:
“Mommy, I gotta do it now. The time is now.”

And he actually kept that promise.

Shaq spent the next three decades quietly keeping that promise while continuing to challenge himself outside the game.

In 2000, already an NBA superstar and champion, he returned to LSU and completed his bachelor’s degree nearly eight years after leaving college early.

In 2005, while still dominating the NBA with the Heat, Shaq earned his MBA because he wanted to understand business and prepare for life after basketball.

Years later, in 2012, he completed a doctorate degree focused on leadership and organizational learning.

Now in 2026, at 54 years old, Shaq went back to LSU once again and earned his master’s degree.

Most people remember Shaq for the championships.

His mother probably remembers him for keeping his word.
