In a political climate where not much good can be counted on, every single dollar that goes toward Alianza’s lifesaving services is significant. 💜 October is , a time to honor survivors, remember victims, and unite communities in the fight against domestic abuse. This , I'm sharing why this matters so much — not only to me, but also to Isla and Paisley.

1 in 4 women will experience violence by a partner during their lifetime. And, it's not as simple as just leaving…

Research shows abusers often have a pattern of violence towards all members of the household – including pets:
🐾 71% of women in domestic violence shelters report their abuser threatened, injured, or killed a pet.
🐾 Nearly half of victims stay with an abuser rather than leave their pet behind.
🐾 As many as 25% of survivors will return because the abuser is using their pet as a means to get them back.

As a survivor, I know not only the agony of feeling unsafe in my own home, but also the agony of fearing for my dog's life every time my abuser got angry. I was so isolated — the deep shame I carried kept me from sharing my story, let alone ask anyone for help. One morning, I finally had the timing and courage for me and my dog to escape that hell. I've been committed to the fight against domestic violence since that day.

💜 In 2024, I joined the Alianza DV Services Board of Directors. Alianza assists, supports, and empowers those whose lives are affected by abuse. Since 1980, Alianza has sheltered more than 10,000 women and children and assisted 22,000 others through community-based support programs.

💜 On Thursday, October 16, Alianza is hosting a Friendraiser — an evening of awareness, community, and support. We've put so much time and love into creating a powerful event that will honor survivors' stories and bring hope and healing, and I hope you'll join me there.

Networking at an art show?! COUNT ME IN! 🎨🖼️🎶📸🙌

I enjoyed a beautiful evening 🌅 with my HB Real Estate and ERC5 peeps at yesterday’s After 5 networking event at Temple Beth El in 📍Springfield.

💜✨ A little over a year ago, I made a big decision that at the time completely unnerved me: I joined the Board of Directors at Alianza DV Services.

Giving my time, effort, and love to causes close to my heart 💖 has always been a personal mission. This was different though. As a domestic violence survivor, I was hesitant to become more involved with Alianza. I didn’t want to be reminded of my own trauma every day.

But, I then remembered how I had no idea what to do or where to turn when I was living in a terrifying situation. Back then, I didn’t know organizations like Alianza even existed. And so, after talking it over with good, supportive friends — “you got this Mija!” 🥹 — I realized that I’m not only strong enough to do the toughest things, but that helping others heal would help me heal too. ❤️‍🩹

A year later, I’m chair of the Resource Committee on the Alianza Board of Directors. We’re hosting a “Friendraising” 🫶 event in partnership with the lovely Springfield Community Theater of MA on October 16 (more info coming very soon!) to raise community awareness of Alianza and their exceptional services. And, stay tuned for Alianza’s first fundraiser in several years, happening in April 2026. 🎉

Today, I’m so delighted to announce that, because of the time I’ve given to Alianza, my company awarded me a $500 grant to present to the organization 🥹. I’m tremendously grateful to Liberty Mutual Insurance Torchbearers for supporting those of us who love to give back. 💜✨

Please welcome my newest , Athena and Ghost! 🐾💗🦴

From their paw-rent, Lisa: “Athena and Ghost are both rescued from 📍Tennessee. Athena loves all people and is a wise, graceful, sophisticated girl 😇. Ghost, on the other hand, is a goofball who could star in his own cartoon 😜. Although he was badly abused and neglected to near starvation, Ghost holds no grudges. He loves everyone and is the ultimate cuddler.” 🫶

Dogs that look like Athena and Ghost can make finding homeowners insurance 🏡 a major battle. I was happy to help this wonderful family secure the right policy with an insurance carrier that welcomes all dog breeds! 🙌🎉🐶
