According to the National Weather Service, an Extreme Heat Warning is in effect until 8 p.m. today, Monday, Aug. 24, for much of the Rolling Plains and the extreme southeastern Texas Panhandle, including Childress County. ☀️🥵

As temperatures are expected to reach up to 113-degrees, heat-related illnesses are anticipated to increase significantly.

To beat the heat, drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Do not leave young children or pets in unattended vehicles, as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing; try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening; and take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Very hot temperatures will continue into Tuesday, with daily thunderstorm chances possible Tuesday through Thursday.
