From Sketch to Final ✨
Some behind-the-scenes magic on our latest piece — swipe your eyes left to right and see how much changes between a draft and a finished work!
🎨 What changed:
Color & light — traded the muted, flat gold tones for rich blues and warm gaslight glow

Setting — added the French Quarter backdrop, cathedral spires, and string lights along the balcony for a real sense of place

Depth — water reflections and distant lights give the scene atmosphere it didn't have before

Expression — the faces feel warmer and more alive in the final pass

Story details — small touches (the flour sack, the coiled rope) got refined into the final composition

Out on the boat all evening for the 4th, and my cousin was the first to ask for my first swamp copy of The Cajun Nativity. The second we got back to the dock, I balanced the book on a cardboard box and signed it right there with the sunset still glowing behind us. Family, faith, and a little Cajun storytelling — that's the 4th of July I needed. Trevor Johnson
