- Nurse Sarah has been hospitalized since July 29 and has been feeling very ill since July 18.
Her symptoms have included a stiff neck, severe headache/pressure in her head, shooting nerve pain in her limbs, nausea and reduced appetite, uveitis, night sweats, liver pain, and persistent fevers that haven’t responded well to pain relievers (but no cough, sore throat, or respiratory issues).
She was admitted to the ER on Tuesday and has undergone multiple tests so far, including MRI, CT scans, a lumbar puncture, and extensive bloodwork to search for many possible pathogens.
Her liver enzymes were elevated, and the lumbar puncture revealed high opening pressure with abnormalities in her CSF.
She has been diagnosed with meningitis, and her healthcare team is working hard to determine the exact cause.
She has tested negative for many things so far, but we are still awaiting results for Lyme disease and several additional tests.
She has been receiving fluids and IV antibiotics regularly, and thankfully, she’s feeling MUCH better today.
Her fever is now low-grade but trending toward normal. Her neck pain and headaches have been improving, and we are hopeful that she will be released from the hospital very soon.
She has received outstanding care from the entire medical team and staff since day one. We feel so blessed to have been treated by such compassionate, skilled, and dedicated individuals. We sincerely thank you all for EVERYTHING you’ve done and continue to do!
Please pray that Nurse Sarah makes a full recovery, experiences no long-term complications, and that the cause of her illness is found so that she can spread awareness and help others.
