Kids
Wow.. life is just a funny creature. We walk through it every day and honestly we miss 95% or what is happening around us because we are all so busy in our lives. That's no excuse but simply the truth. I was married in May of 2009. I couldn't see a single day, let alone an hour or minute without her. As our family grew to a family of 6, one day life changed those plans. And suddenly I found myself as a single father sharing custody with their mom 50/50. Now what I saw as my life was half over. None of this was ever expected in a million years. Now alone trying to keep it together for myself and be strong for them also throughout the changes
I grew to adapt along with my kids and their mom to new days in our lives as how it was now to be. It wasn't always easy, but it's in a good place for the kids and that's what mattered most.
Now we fast forward to July of 2023. We all got through the roughest parts and also losing loved ones throughout Covid etc.
In July of 2023, I wasn't feeling well and went to the hospital to find out i had pneumonia. Yes pneumonia in July. Who would ever have guessed. It also had gone septic so I spent a week in the hospital before the fever broke and I could go home after the following weekend.
The next Monday, I woke at 430 in the morning with a pain in center of my chest like someone shot me. Had some numbness lasted a few mere seconds and went away but the dull lingering pain remained. I was uncomfortable couldn't go back to sleep. After awhile I got up and got ready then returned to work. I felt fine otherwise except what I could best describe felt like a "black hole" in my chest where this lingering dull spot of feeling remained. After awhile I told a co-worker I was gonna just go back to dr cause I didn't feel good still. Thankfully they called an ambulance 🚑 that took me to the hospital I just spent the previous week in.
After a few hours the ER Heart Dr decided to keep me and run tests the next morning where they discovered some anomalies in the stress test and ordered me down to get an Angiogram. During that process found I had had a heart attack and that I had 3 major blockages with one at 93%. The Dr stopped immediately and told me I would be scheduled the following Monday for a Tripple bypass.
I was broken mentally.....
I called the kids mom and talked with her about what was going on and she told the kids. The next morning I got an even bigger scare saying that I was being moved up to that day instead of next Monday and my brain went into overdrive. They later decided to keep the date of following Monday.
The kids all called me and their mom brought them to see me throughout the week as I patiently waited . Talking with my kids and feeling their love and support and them lifting me up throughout this whole ordeal was amazing. They were so strong and resilient while being reassuring and at the same time very scared.
Their strength lifted me up after the very successful surgery and weeks of healing and rehab and later finding out i had a quadruple bypass instead of a tripple as told i would have. Just another surprise on the Bingo card.
These 4 beautiful children literally saved my life in so many ways and I cannot be more proud to be their father.
Many thanks to them every day. Even when they are kids and do kid things where I have to be the dad about, I'm lucky to be their dad every day.
Here we are 8 months later ... still healing, still rehabbing, still proud of my heroes.. these guys are my Kidz-Heart Heroes in so many ways.
I love you Greg Jr, Kolton, Shayla, Connor.
