Full circle moment..
1000 years ago I was entering my 2nd year of college
and on the first day of classes I took my first REAL Journalism class. It was taught by two female professors who to put it lightly… scared the 💩 out of me.
I left school that day… went to work my part time job where my dad also worked. I barged in telling him, HE WAS RIGHT!
I was never going to make it as a reporter. I decided I was going to quit college and instead, I was going to go Cosmetology school (because I was fairly good at doing hair and make-up😂).
My dad who was not thrilled with my choice for a Major (he wanted me to do something more “reliable” like nursing or teaching) said to me, “Okay. As long as some day you’re okay doing the hair and make-up for one of the Main Anchors in town.”
From that moment on, I never looked back.
Last night one of those professors… who I was SO intimidated by… was honored for her work and I was there.
Maryanne Zeleznik with WVXU
was a great journalist then, and still is today.
Thanks for challenging me and inspiring me… all those years
ago.🫶🏼

In the presence of greatness.

Tonight I got to emcee (with my friend Kathrine Nero) a great event.

Nero and I got to induct Pat Crowley (posthumously), Tom McKee WCPO, and WLWT-TV Courtis Fuller into the Greater Cincinnati Society of Professional Journalists Hall of Fame.

What an honor! And congrats to all of this year’s Excellence in Journalism award winners!
