You know that instinct you have to stay close to walls or edges? It’s about limiting your exposure and narrowing your field of awareness. Being in an open space with no edge to protect you can be anxiety-inducing. In fact, the more anxious you are, the more likely you are to seek the edge, whether it’s a solid border of buildings along a city street, alcove or cozy corner.
