Jazz, Stories & Spirits: Celebrating the Edgemont Inn was an unforgettable evening of history, music, and community — a lively tribute to a little-known chapter of Cincinnati's past.

🎶 Live Music by the YOLO Band featuring Lavieena Campbell and Lady Joya will bring the sounds of the 1940s to life with classic jazz, swing, and blues.

🎤 Brandi Lasherrill weaved the fascinating story of the Edgemont Inn, once a Green Book-listed tavern and boarding house operated by Irene Bacon in the historic Stowe House during segregation. Between sets, you’ll hear about how this iconic home became a vibrant gathering place for Black travelers and Walnut Hills neighbors.

🍽️ Food, drinks, and local retail vendors were on-site, giving you a taste of the community spirit that defined the era — and still thrives today.

More photos and details are forthcoming. Everyone had a good time. Thank you, Thompson, Hall & Jordan Funeral Home, and ArtsWave, for your generous donations. A time was had!

Unmarried fathers in Ohio would get expanded custody, parenting time under proposed bill

When a child is born to unmarried parents in Ohio, the father has far fewer rights than the mother.

House Bill 256 would place the responsibility of custody and parenting time on both parents equally − if the father establishes paternity through a test or the child's birth certificate.

The mother would remain the sole legal guardian. Parents could still ask a judge to limit or terminate parental rights based on the other person's actions or inactions.

And the father could not become a residential parent or legal guardian if he were convicted of r**e or sexual battery.

A prior domestic violence conviction wouldn't terminate a father's right to raise a child.

The bill is one of several that Williams has introduced to promote fatherhood and the nuclear family. Other bills would create an income tax credit for businesses that give employees bonuses for getting married or having a child. He also wants to incentivize businesses that offset in vitro fertilization costs.

Republican lawmakers also want to create a "natural family month" to celebrate lifelong monogamous heterosexual couples with children.

Who knew? Where are the city's rats? See how your Cincinnati neighborhood compares. Be careful out there!

Rat complaints in Cincinnati have declined in recent years, dropping from over 300 in 2021 to below 200 annually.

The city's health department manages a rat control program where inspectors bait sewers with poison upon receiving complaints.

Residents who see rats or signs of them are encouraged to report the sightings by calling 311.

Most rat complaints come from older, denser neighborhoods downtown, such as Pendleton and South Fairmount.
