Taking a cruise to Cozumel? Every cruiser makes a beeline for the same beach clubs, which are packed wall-to-wall, and nobody ever tells you that you bring your own towel. Here's what I like to do instead: visit Iberostar. It's a full resort, not a beach club, so the beach and pool areas are massive, it's still all inclusive, they provide towels, and it's significantly less crowded even on heavy port days. More expensive than a basic beach club day pass, but a completely different experience. Comment HOLA for my complete Cozumel guide.

I posted a video about this over a month ago, but it took Carnival that long to issue official notice to their customers about their massive data breach, and that’s disappointing.

I keep seeing people saying online it’s a scam, and it’s not legit, but it is, and Carnival even has a banner running on their website for those who don’t believe it.

Unfortunately, it seems like our consumer data is breached regularly from companies large and small, so sadly this isn’t anything new or unique, but useful to know if you’ve ever cruised with Carnival.

Cozumel is one of my favorite ports in the world, but only if you actually know what you're doing. Most people step off the ship without knowing the basics.

Here's what matters:

Your pier changes everything. Cozumel has three terminals: Puerta Maya (Carnival Corporation ships), the International Terminal (Princess, Norwegian), and Punta Langosta (Disney, Celebrity, MSC). Punta Langosta is the only one in downtown San Miguel, so you can walk off the ship and actually be somewhere. At the other two, you need a taxi to get anywhere worth going.

Taxis are private, government-regulated, and fares are posted by zone at each pier. No Uber in Cozumel. Bring cash and small bills. Most drivers do not take credit cards.

The free beach here is not what most people picture. Public beach options near the terminals are rocky with no amenities. Most cruisers end up at a beach club, which is a flat day-pass with all-inclusive food, drinks, and beach or pool access. There are several options and they are not all the same. Research before you go. Vibe, price, and what is included varies significantly between them.

One more thing: do not rent a scooter. They look fun. Local drivers call it the number one tourist mistake on this island.

What's your favorite thing to do in Cozumel?

Who else has absolutely fried the soles of their feet on a cruise ship lido deck?

My top five favorite cruise line private islands. Five: Princess Cay, tender port and rocky beach but gorgeous. Four: Half Moon Cay, rustic, no waterslides, and genuinely one of the most beautiful in the Caribbean. Three: Labadee, Royal Caribbean's Haiti port, closed right now but stunning when open. Two: CocoCay, Royal has invested heavily and it shows. And my number one, which might surprise you: MSC Ocean Cay. No waterslides, no theme park, just pure rustic beauty and the perfect beach day.

My honest review of Royal Caribbean's Radiance of the Seas. I did not love it. Part of that is context, I came straight from Utopia of the Seas and that is an adjustment. Smaller ships have real upsides: shorter lines, more personal service, ports the mega ships can't reach. But Radiance felt dated and the amenities didn't compare. If it's your first cruise or you're on a budget it might be fine. But if you've been on a big Royal ship, the gap is hard to ignore.

Royal Caribbean’s Perfect Day at CocoCay is pretty awesome as it is, and you don’t have to spend any money there, but there are some paid options worth considering. Do you think Hideaway Beach is worth the cost?

Star of the Seas rocked my world and is the *almost* perfect ship. It just has one massive flaw, and if you cruise with kids, it’s one you probably should know about.

While I love Perfect Day at CocoCay, I haven’t been too excited about Royal Caribbean’s plans for Perfect Day Mexico (mostly because of the likely impact on not just the environment but also the local tourism economy), so I can’t say I’m sad about this news. What do you think?

Is bigger better?

Bati on a Boat and I have gotten hooked on thr big fancy new ships, although the smaller ones still have their upsides and I can see why some people like or even prefer them.

But the one BIG problem with the big ships? It’s hard to get everything in. On Star of the Seas, Bati and I found so many hidden and tucked away spots, that we honestly probably wouldn’t have known about it if not for our social media friends.

I made a video about it yesterday but again wanted to thank my social media friend (gahhh I wish I could remember who it was) that shared an amazing, hand-written Star “cheat sheet.” A lot of folks asked about it, so I included it in the pics, so scroll to get it and be sure to screenshot it.

Obviously the cruise line apps have all this info, but there’s a LOT on there and it can be really overwhelming, so a cheat sheet like this (and how it’s organized) can be enormously helpful.

Many folks from that video have asked me if I have any other big ship cheat sheets. Sadly, I do not, but if you have one, please be a gem and drop it in the comments!

At some point (a girl can dream bc my time is very limited), I’d love to make a series of these to share with people and help them out.
