Sending all my good vibes, prayers, and thoughts to the folks in beautiful Jamaica, bracing for the (unfortunately named) Hurricane Melissa. 🇯🇲

From the latest reports I’ve seen, things are looking serious. Melissa could peak as a Category 5 hurricane, with catastrophic impacts expected from tomorrow into Tuesday. What makes it even more dangerous is not just the intensity, but the slow forward sp*ed, which could worsen flooding and damage.

It’s a massive, late-season storm, and I'm a little surprised to see something this powerful developing so late in the hurricane year.

Cruising from Port NOLA is such a vibe. Rolling down the river to get out to sea is super cool, and exploring such a historic city before (or after) your cruise is a special treat.

My kiddo, though? Not impressed with Bourbon Street. "It smells like p*e," was her most significant impression, although she otherwise liked New Orleans (although she was also unimpressed with Cafe Du Monde's famous beignets. What a tough customer!).

The terminal here is quite a bit different than Florida ports, which I'm more familiar with, but I always love trying new departure ports in different cities.

Nassau is home to some great beaches, although I avoid the public beaches like the plague. For me, it's too chaotic with annoying vendors, loud music, and crowds. When I want a beach day here, I always go the private resort day pass route, and Nassau has some great ones. Honestly, they're all good options, each with its pros and cons.

If you want more of a cultural experience, though, there's so much to see and do here, and much of it is even walkable from the cruise terminal. The Bahamas Rum Cake Factory, Queen's Staircase, Fort Fincastle, Watling's Distillery, and Greycliff are just a few great options, and if you're into seafood, a stop by the famous Fish Fry is a must.
