As a photographer, I've had my share of shoots that didn't go as planned, as well as those that were just . . . ehh. Yesterday with Rebecca and Shylynn was not that case. It started off simple but ended with a bang. After starting at Longworth Hall shooting some of Rebecca’s gowns by the old building there, we decided to move on to a parking garage I’d heard about. Now years ago, I tried shooting on top of a parking garage, only to get booted out by security. You can imagine my apprehension this time but numerous photographers said it was safe and there wouldn’t be a problem shooting up there.
When I first got to the top floor, there was a gentleman shooting photos of his Mustang with his phone. It was a nicelooking car so I thought why not ask if he could hang around and let me shoot the girls with it? He agreed and the fun began. What I thought was just another person taking photos with their phone actually turned out to be another photographer. You can imagine my surprise when I turned around and he’d broken out a DSLR. Jhoel Astaiza is the other photographer’s name and he's actually a very good photographer. I need to thank Jhoel for sticking around and letting us use his car. Definitely looking forward to doing a photowalk with him.
Well . . .that was just the beginning of the fun as Rebecca called two friends of her’s that had Corvettes. The next thing I knew, we’d gone from a simple, no idea what we’re shooting to a full on model with cars shoot. Rebecca and I have a history of no idea shoots turning out great, so why not again this time? As I hope you all see in the images, things just clicked and went extremely well.
Just can’t plan for shoots like this. I’ve decided that no matter how hard you plan for a photo shoot, there are times the photo gods just don’t make it work for you. Then you get those that just work for no reason. No over planning, no over thinking, it just works and that’s what happened here.
