I've been lucky to talk to many "celebrities" over the years, but Nancy Wilson of Heart was special. She was friendly, funny, generous and more forthcoming than a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has any need to be. She has nothing to prove at this point in her career (and life), but is committed to the music that she has been playing for almost 60 years. Beyond that, she is a decent person without pretense, something that is in short supply these days.

She and sister Ann’s concert tour celebrates the 50th anniversary of Heart’s debut album.

Before you head out to connect with friends at the bar on Thanksgiving Eve, tune into Bob Hust in the studio. He'll play a giant serving of turkey tunes and also pay tribute to the great Jimmy Cliff, who passed away Monday at 81 in Jamaica. The reggae great was also social justice warrior as shown in this video of his "Vietnam" from the "The Harder They Fall" soundtrack in 1969. Join Bob from 6-8 p.m. at WAIF-FM (88.3 in Cincinnati, streaming at WAIFRadio.org and BlueSnakesandBanjos.com).

Laughter can help deal with tragedy, and that was the premise of last week's show that paid tribute to the late, great Todd Snider. Our friend Jack Greiner joined Bob Hust and me to play our favorite G-rated songs, but urged listeners to scroll YouTube for the liver versions that are almost always knee-slapping crazy. If you have a finite amount of time, skip this episode and go straight to the internet, but if you want to hear a sincere thank you from three true fans, tune in now.

Jack Greiner joined Bob and Bill for a tribute to the late, great Todd Snider. Making sure the songs didn’t offend the FCC was a delicate task, but they pulled it off – almost.

The "What, Me Worry? The Art and Humor of MAD Magazine" exhibition at Cincinnati Art Museum provided an opportunity to spend time with local musicians Bob Nyswonger and Rob Fetters of The Raisins (and The Bears), and Laurie Bachner, the daughter of award-winning illustrator Mort Drucker. The show features more than 150 items that will bring back memories for longtime fans and introduce an American cultural institution to those who missed its heyday.

The Cincinnati Art Museum takes another deep dive into pop culture with “What, Me Worry? The Art and Humor of Mad Magazine.”

Join us for a tribute to the late, great Todd Snider. This time capsule of his debut performance on Austin City Limits in 1996 is stunning. We'll talked about about this with friend of the show Jack Greiner from 6-8 p.m. today on WAIF-FM (88.3 in Cincinnati, streaming on WAIFRadio.org and BlueSnakesandBanjos.org).

We had a great time at Monday's Fall FunRaiser (no D) at THE COMET. Almost 40 people came out including Bruce, who has been listening to the show for more than 7 years without calling or posting once. We hope there are more Bruces out there and hope you will come to the Spring FunRaiser (no D), date TBA. While we were celebrating the show, however, I was still mourning the death of Todd Snider Saturday. I've spent three late nights in the YouTube rabbit hole, so I decided that if BS&B is truly the Best Education on the Radio (shoutout Kathy Schwartz, Cincinnati CityBeat), we should spread the gospel. I'm going to post a video each day until the sadness subsides a bit. Tim Erwin, my Piqua homie of more than 60 years, and I saw Hard Working Americans twice in Columbus about 10 years or so ago and they were outstanding. So we'll start there to give folks something to look forward to every day if they don't have hours to do it (like me).

Todd Snider was one of BS&B's OGs, a brilliant songwriter, unparalleled storyteller and a gracious man. I'm glad I lived during the time he was on Earth.

Aimless, Inc. Headquarters is heartbroken to share that our Founder, our Folk Hero, our Poet of the World, our Vice President of the Abrupt Change Dept., the Storyteller, our beloved Todd Daniel Snider has departed this world. Where do we find the words for the one who always had the right words, who knew how to distill everything down to its essence with words and song while delivering the most devastating, hilarious, and impactful turn of phrases? Always creating rhyme and meter that immediately felt like an old friend or a favorite blanket. Someone who could almost always find the humor in this crazy ride on Planet Earth.

He relayed so much tenderness and sensitivity through his songs, and showed many of us how to look at the world through a different lens. He got up every morning and started writing, always working towards finding his place among the songwriting giants that sat on his record shelves, those same giants who let him into their lives and took him under their wings, who he studied relentlessly. Guy Clark, John Prine, Kris Kristofferson, Jerry Jeff Walker.

How do we move forward without the one who gave us countless 90 minute distractions from our impending doom? The one who always had 18 minutes to share a story. We’ll do it by carrying his stories and songs that contain messages of love, compassion, and peace with us. Today, put on one of your favorite Todd Snider records and "play it loud enough to wake up all of your neighbors or at least loud enough to always wake yourself up.” We love you Todd, sail on old friend, we’ll see you again out there on the road somewhere down the line. You will always be a force of nature.

"Like A Force of Nature"

If we never get together again
Forgive me for these fools I’ve been
See if you can remember me when
I was listening to my better angels

It’s like a force of nature
Coming over me
I can’t keep myself from moving
It’s like a force of nature

May your hope always outweigh your doubt
Until this old world finally punches you out
May you always play your music
Loud enough to wake up all of your neighbors
Or may you play at least loud enough
To always wake yourself up

If you have ever wondered what kind of people listen to Blue Snakes & Banjos, you can find out for yourself Monday from 6-8 p.m. at THE COMET on Hamilton Avenue in Northside. In 2014, the community was small, family and friends who listened out of pity because they didn't want to hurt our feelings. But when it became clear that the show was "The Best Music Education on the Radio" (shoutout Kathy Schwartz in Cincinnati CityBeat), more people tuned in. Since we started hosting FunRaisers (no D) after the pandemic, we've met many new friends who have become part of the family. We would love to put faces to the voices that have called in over the years.

Everybody needs a break from the state of the nation these days, and I have the perfect prescription. sheng wang is a standup comedian who plays Bogart's on Nov. 22. He has a Netflix special, "Sweet & Juicy," and taped a recent Washington D.C. show for his next production. He is hilarious without being confrontational, profane or angry. He is truly fun for the whole family. He was kind enough to chat about the 20-year road to becoming an overnight sensation.

His stand-up tour is riding high three years after a breakthrough Netflix special, with a second show on the way.

I planned a great show today ahead of next Monday's Fall FunRaiser at THE COMET, but the kazzootie up 'n grabbed me, so tune into a classic episode of BS&B today from 6-8 p.m. While you're listening, pretend that Bob Hust and I are reminding you every few minutes to head to Northside Monday from 6-8 p.m. to enjoy an evening of great company with like-minded people. In case you missed last week's visit from Rob Fetters and Bob Nyswonger, tune in now. And REMIND them that they should join us at The Comet. See you Monday, we'll be back in the studio next Wednesday at the regular time.

If you were otherwise occupied and missed the visit of Rob Fetters and Bob Nyswonger to the studio Wednesday, you're in luck. Stream it to hear their lovely remembrances of The Raisins' early days, the collaborations that led to The Bears and The psychodots, and how two Toledo-area music fiends found a home in Cincinnati. You can see the Raisins (with Bam Powell and Ricky Nye) Dec. 5-6 at The Woodward Theater (visit the venue website for tickets). Although a bit vague about their schedules, there's a possibility you can meet them in person at the Blue Snakes & Banjos Fall FunRaiser at THE COMET, 6-8 p.m. Nov. 17 on Hamilton Avenue in Northside.

Bob Hust and I are tingling with anticipation for today's visit from Rob Fetters and Bob Nyswonger of The Raisins, the Bears and the psychodots. The longtime musical partners are playing the Raisins' annual two-night stand at The Woodward Theater Dec.5-6, and they'll also talk about when legendary artist Mort Drucker, who will be featured in the Cincinnati Art Museum's upcoming "What, Me Worry? The Art and Humor of MAD Magazine," drew the cover illustration for the Bears' eponymous first album. If that's not enough for one show, tune in early to hear about Kathleen Edwards playing the best show I've seen this year (until the Raisins, of course). Everything kicks off at 6 p.m. on WAIF-FM (88.3 in Cincinnati, streaming at WAIFRadio.org and BlueSnakesandBanjos.com.
