The University of Cincinnati Libraries reevaluated their budget in March 2026. Resulting budget cuts reduced library hours of operation and limited student employment options at Main Campus Libraries. The changes originally took effect in June 2026 and will continue through UC’s 2026-27 academic year.

Former Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown attended a University of Cincinnati tailgate at Sigma Sigma Commons on Sept. 12, 2026. Brown, a Democrat, will be on the November 2026 ballot — vying for one of Ohio’s U.S. senator seats after losing to Republican Sen. Bernie Moreno in the 2024 senatorial race.

The News Record interviewed Brown regarding his policies and how they relate to university student voters and constituents.

University of Cincinnati students and faculty received UC safety alerts regarding three confirmed shootings on and around UC’s Main and Medical Campuses, between Aug. 24 and Sept. 1, 2026. The most recent report was a double-shooting on East Shields on UC’s Medical Campus on Sept. 1. This incident resulted in one death and one injury.

Fishbowl Live, a once popular house show venue, has returned to Clifton’s live music scene after abruptly closing its doors in March 2026. Fishbowl held its first show since February, “Fish Out of Water,” at The Mockbee, on Sept. 3, 2026. The packed event drew in about 500 people, according to Boston Hammond, a founding organizer for Fishbowl and fourth-year construction management major at the University of Cincinnati.
