UPDATE: On April 22, 2025 a Hit-skip crash left a young child with serious injuries .. A suspect has now been arrested and charged.

Around noon on May 2, 2025, The Ohio State Highway Patrol made an apprehension of the driver involved in the above-mentioned hit-skip crash.

Earlier this afternoon, 38-year-old John D. Miller Jr. of the Athens, Ohio area surrendered to state troopers at an area McDonalds restaurant without incident. The patrol had previously secured an arrest warrant through the Jackson Municipal Court for Mr. Miller, and worked several leads that came from media exposure and numerous specialized resources.

Miller is now incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail on a felony charge of leaving the scene of a serious injury crash. Additional charges will likely be filed.

DOES ANYONE RECOGNIZE THIS PICKUP TRUCK ?

Jackson – On Tuesday April 22, 2025, Troopers from the Jackson Patrol Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a serious injury crash on State Route 93 near milepost 6 in Madison Township, Jackson County. The crash occurred at approximately 8:05 P.M.

A red Dodge Dakota was traveling southbound on State Route 93, when it struck a two-year-old boy in the roadway. The vehicle then continued off the right side of the road where it came to a controlled rest. As the father of the child (crash occurred directly in front of residence) rendered first aid, the Dodge fled the scene southbound on SR93.

The child was transported to the Adena Regional Hospital in Chillicothe, before being flown to Children’s Hospital, in Columbus, Ohio.

The fleeing vehicle is believed to be a Red (possibly maroon) Dodge Dakota, crew cab 4 door pick-up, between model year 2005 – 2011. At this time the identity of the driver and vehicle is unknown. Please see the attached photo of the actual vehicle as it drove by a nearby security camera moments after the crash. Any assistance to the identity of the vehicle and/or driver can be forwarded the Jackson Patrol Post at (740)286-4141.

This crash remains under investigation.

Fatal crash reported in Pickaway County.

According to Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey on February 16, 2025, at 3:34 AM the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office Communication Center received a call of a single vehicle into a pole, on Bell Station Road.

Pickaway County Sheriff Deputies arrived on scene and located a 2005 Buick LaCrosse into a utility pole. The crash occurred on Bell Station Road about a half of a mile west of Walnut Creek Pike in Circleville Township.

During the Deputies investigation they learned the Buick was traveling eastbound on Bell Station Road when it went off the roadway to the left and struck a utility pole. At the time of the collision the driver was ejected from the Buick.

The driver was identified as 33-year-old Kaleb B. Miller out of Amanda, Ohio. Kaleb Miller was pronounced dead at the scene by Pickaway Township EMS.

Sheriff Hafey would like to thank Pickaway Township EMS, Circleville EMS, Harrison Township EMS, Walnut Township Trustees, the Pickaway County Coroner’s Office, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol for their assistance at the scene.

This accident remains under investigation by the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.

TWO VEHICLE CRASH CLAIMS THE LIFE OF 46 YEAR-OLD CHILLICOTHE MAN.

Jackson County, Ohio – On Saturday, January 4th, 2025, Troopers from the Jackson Patrol Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash on US35 near milepost 6 in Jackson Township, Jackson County. The crash occurred at approximately 10:45 P.M.

Jason Frey, age 46, of Chillicothe, Ohio was operating a 2021 Audi A5. Mr. Frey was traveling westbound on US35 when he failed to negotiate a curve, traveled off the left side of the roadway, and across the median. Mr. Frey then entered the eastbound lanes of travel, striking a 2014 Chevrolet Captiva being operated by Luke White, age 18, of Milton, West Virginia. Mr. Frey then overturned several times before coming to rest in the median.

Mr. Frey was transported to Holzer Hospital of Jackson, by Jackson County E.M.S, where he was later pronounced deceased. Mr. White and the passenger accompanying him sustained minor injury.

Agencies assisting on scene include the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio Department of Transportation, Jackson County EMS, Coalton Fire Department, Mapes Towing, and Durham’s Towing. Both lanes of US35 eastbound were closed for approximately one hour for crash investigation and clean-up.

This crash remains under investigation.

**CARD SKIMMERS USED IN ROSS COUNTY**
Below is the media release from the Ross County Sherrif.

Attention Ross County!

I want the community to be aware. Skimmer devices were found and used in Ross County.

My office is currently investigating and working with agents from the Department of Public Safety and South Central Ohio Job and Family Services regarding this investigation.

The Skimmer devices were being used at Corner Market on Charleston Pike and Save-a-Lot on Western Avenue. Transactions, of the electronic stolen funds, occurred in July 2024.

If you or someone you know is a victim of an electronic EBT card theft from either grocery store, please contact my office at 740-773-1185 and file a report.
