Beyond the verges of the ice he saw a sea that lay remotely and far beneath; and beyond the sea the low looming of a dim shore.

Ugh. Dim Shores is reluctantly still here from time to time. I have demonetized my pages as much as possible and am enthusiastically blocking all kinds of sh*tty accounts. Encouraging more of my friends to give Bluesky a try too. No algorithm and no ads, at least for now. More like Xitter than FB but feels good there without Zuck etc. breathing down my neck.

OK, back on Facebook in a limited capacity to spread the word about a couple of benefits. First:

Back in 2015 I published the second Dim Shores chapbook -- _after_ by Scott Nicolay, with incredible cover and interior illustrations from Michael Bukowski. Michael is raffling off what remains of his original artwork as a benefit for the Sameer Project in Gaza, a donations-based aid initiative for Gaza led by Palestinians. I donated one of my precious copies of the novella and a set of the full color art prints that accompanied the book 10 years ago, and these will be included with Michael’s original art.

This is a special opportunity to get original art and the very rare chapbook (only 160 were printed). Raffle tickets are $6 USD, link down below.

I received the second and final box of Scott Nicolay’s novella _caterpillars_ yesterday, and I begin fulfilling orders today. (Gorgeous cover art by Matthew Jaffe.)

As promised, I am giving away a copy of Scott’s rare 2015 Dim Shores novella _after_, including a set of four color prints by Michael Bukowski, to one lucky pre-order. There were 113 eligible orders; I used random.org to pick the winner, and that person is Oliver McCormick. Congrats Oliver, your Nicolay novellas will be on their way to you soon.

If you haven’t read _after_, it is reprinted in Scott’s excellent second collection And At My Back I Always Hear (2022, Word Horde).

_caterpillars_ is limited to 150 hand-numbered copies. There are currently 19 copies left in stock.

And please say hello to new intern Minx, fostered then adopted from a rescue in November. She is 2 years old and manages to be both sweetheart and dedicated sower of chaos.

Well, I received one box of Scott Nicolay's new novella _caterpillars_, but the second box is somewhere in the bowels of the USPS, last seen in Phoenix AZ. *sigh* So if you order now you still have a chance to win a copy of Scott's rare 2015 novella _after_. There are 23 copies of _caterpillars_ left in stock.

Down to 33 copies of Scott Nicolay's brand new novella _caterpillars_. I just approved the final proof and ordered the print run, hope to have books in-house and ready to ship in about two weeks.

As a reminder, everyone who pre-orders _caterpillars_ will have a shot at winning a true rarity: a recently unearthed copy of the 2nd edition of Scott's 2015 DS novella, _after_, plus a set of the four Michael Bukowski prints that came with the 1st edition.

Also, I'm losing my ability to tolerate Meta's nonsense. These new "AI profiles" would be funny if they weren't so bad for so many reasons. I foresee a time when I shut down this page and the IG page. If you want to stay informed about DS stuff, please sign up for the mailing list and/or follow me on Blu3sky (which doesn't suck yet).

Two quick updates for Scott Nicolay’s forthcoming novella _caterpillars_:

First, I added a shipping option to the web store for Canada. Readers in the Great White North can now order a copy directly through the store, postage is $9.00 USD for GlobalPost International. If you want _caterpillars_ plus something else, please continue to message me so I can get an exact postage cost for you.

Second, looks like the book will be printed and ready to ship in the second or third week of January. A little later than I hoped but it will be worth it, I promise. Seen here is the latest proof on top of a bunch of earlier proofs. I love how the latest shows off Matthew Jaffe’s beautiful cover art.

I’m putting together a newsletter to send out after the holiday season that will have the latest shipping news for _caterpillars_, as well as more info about Rhiannon Rasmussen’s 2025 short collection _The Maidens of Midnight_ (including another peek at Julia Retamales’ interior artwork) and maybe more. If you want to get on the mailing list, drop me a line.

I suspect even those who have the Dim Shores edition of "Red Skies in the Morning" will buy this book, for the two novelettes if nothing else. Congratulations Nadia!

We are absolutely thrilled to announce Nadia Bulkin's ISSUES WITH AUTHORITY, which will include her recently-released (and soldout) novella Red Skies in the Morning.

Coming September 2025 from Ghoulish Books.

Pre-orders come with a signed author sticker: https://ghoulish.rip/product/issues-with-authority/

OK, Red Skies in the Morning by Nadia Bulkin (cover art by Leslé Kieu, cover design by Michaela Waltz) is printed, in house, and ready to ship. I'm processing orders as fast as I can but it will take me a week or so to get through everything. This may have been the fastest sell-out yet, but don't despair -- I have it on good authority that a different publisher will be bringing it your eyeholes at some point in the future.

Shown here is assistant publisher Ripley, doing an excellent job of not helping me.
