🛝Clanton Unveils New Splash Pad at City Park: A Dream Years in the Making🛝
By Baiden Little
After years of planning, delays, and anticipation, the City of Clanton officially opened its brand-new splash pad this morning and the community showed up in full force to celebrate.
The grand opening, held at Clanton City Park, was marked by laughter, excited kids, and the joyful sound of water splashing as children ran through jets and sprays under the Alabama sun.
“This has been five or six years in the making,” said Mayor Jeff Mims. “We had to start over after COVID, but we stayed committed to seeing it through. Today proves it was worth the wait.”
The project was made possible through a 50/50 grant partnership, helping ease the cost burden while delivering a fun, safe, and refreshing space for families.
“It’s really nice,” said Ashley Baker, watching her kids play. “Just exciting for the kids, they’ve needed this.” Crystal Martin agreed: “This is the kind of thing that makes memories.”
For young visitors like McKinley and Brynleigh, the excitement was undeniable. “I’m ready to go to the splash pad!” one shouted as they dashed toward the water.
Marry Mell Smith, a City Council member, summed up the mood with simple enthusiasm: “Thrilled to death! It’s just beautiful.”
Jeff Zissette, who helped oversee the project, said the morning’s sunny skies and happy turnout were exactly what they hoped for. “Perfect weather, great turnout, we couldn’t be more pleased,” he said.
Sally Wall, who heads Clanton’s parks department, noted how meaningful the new addition is for local families. “It’s a great improvement. The park was nice before, but this is something special for the kids.”
Blair Little, who manages the city pool, also expressed her support. “I’m excited to see a splash pad come to our community. It adds so much for local families looking for outdoor fun.”
Beyond the excitement, city leaders believe the splash pad will have lasting impact on the community. It provides an affordable, accessible recreation option for families, encourages outdoor activity, and offers a safe, inclusive space for kids to play and connect. For working parents or caregivers looking for easy summer plans close to home, it’s an ideal option.
Best of all — it’s completely free to the public.
“This is about more than just fun,” Mayor Mims added. “It’s about investing in quality of life. This gives families a reason to come to the park, spend time together, and be proud of what their city offers.”
As kids continued to run, laugh, and cool off under the fountains, one thing was clear: Clanton’s newest attraction is already a community favorite.
The splash pad is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m.
