"When you read a piece under 400 words that stops you in your tracks, it only makes you want to read another with such power. Fortunately, thankfully, we have Best Microfictions, which gives us a book of the best. They may be short, but the pieces will last you a year, making their way into your heart and mind—just in time for next year’s edition."

"I know of no better representation of all that’s happening right now with the micro story than the Best Microfiction anthology. What a coming together of voices, energies, experiments, visions. This is not a collection to work through, as a reader. This is a collection to savor."

There is something about the way she describes the landscape, weather, and even food that can be so universal but also deeply personal. Magic is working throughout these pages and I know I can’t be the only one who loves a good spell."

Simultaneously, our lives change and stay the same. We always end up where we began, our home. With regards to family, home can be complicated or simple or both. Each year I age, I settle into the idea of always needing to go home. In my late teenhood and early 20s, I demanded a reason … Continue ...

"How the Wizard Came to the Cherrythorpe" tells the tale of Thomas, who has worn the mantle of a wizard long enough that he can’t remember whether he actually is one, and he suspects that no one else much cares whether he is. Wandering into the Hellebore, Thomas is asked to bring to life again the dead son of its baron, and he uses the opportunity to resolve what he’ll be for the rest of his life.
