The Rogers County Sheriff's Office arrested a man east of Claremore Wednesday after a six-hour standoff.
The man, Anthony Space, was booked into the Rogers County jail at 1:30 p.m. According to News on 6, Space walked up to television news crews stationed outside the standoff on South Diana Drive around 1 p.m. and told a photographer the house deputies were surrounding was his. Deputies took Space into custody after the news crews reported he'd come up to them.
Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton said the standoff began after a woman who lived with Space called 911 around 7:47 a.m. She told the dispatcher she and Space had been arguing, which led to a physical fight. As she was leaving, Space shot twice at her but only hit her vehicle.
Walton said the woman was uninjured and safety met deputies at Highway 20.
"First contact with her was a remote site a couple of miles away from here," Walton said to TV news reporters during the standoff. "She did what she could to survive, which was get away from him."
RCSO posted to its Facebook account around 9 a.m. Wednesday that deputies were engaged in a standoff with a "violent subject." It advised people to stay away from the scene near the intersection of 4240 Road and Highway 20, believing Space was likely still inside the home he and the woman shared.
Walton said it turned out Space had already left the house before law enforcement arrived. He said about 45 minutes elapsed from the time the woman called 911 to the time RCSO deputies got to the house.
Walton said deputies could not tell for sure if Space was inside the house. He said RCSO had responded to Space's home in the past and knew he kept numerous rifles, shotguns and pistols.
"I want everybody to know that in bold letters, it was my decision that we stayed there until we verified that he was not in there with all the guns," Walton said. "... I call yesterday a success, whether anybody else does or not."
District Attorney Matt Ballard's office had not charged Space with a crime as of Thursday.
