Two familiar names top this weekend's Report, showing their dominance and staying power in the Summer 2026 movie season. Will this weekend prove to be their last hurrah or will they take over the fall as well?
After achieving its sixth week at #1, SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY is coming up on the streak set by AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER, which enjoyed seven weeks on the top of the Box Office Report in late 2022 and early 2023. While THE ODYSSEY didn't have the same string of top finishes, it's been consistently #1, #2, or #3 in all eight weeks of its release so far.
The only newcomer to make the Top 10 is Mark Wahlberg's BY ANY MEANS, which couldn't edge COYOTE VS ACME out of #3. INSIDIOUS: OUT OF THE FURTHER barely kept CARS - 20TH ANNIVERSARY from making #5, which performed very well for a 20-year-old movie.
The other newcomers this weekend did not make the Top 10 list. FALL 2: DEADPOINT made a bit less than its 2022 predecessor, but that shouldn't prevent it from finding its true audience on streaming services. That would make quite the double feature! ONSLAUGHT came in just below the Fall sequel, so it's not going to repeat A24's huge success this summer with BACKROOMS.
