Old Business

Reading of the previous weeks minutes, unanimous approval by vote.

Motion to move into old business, unanimous approval by vote.

IUP PASSHE convention; the advertisement for the event was posted on the CU Digest past the registration date of the convention earlier in September.
Community Service day will be this Saturday, October 12th. Because we cannot attend the IUP conference, please attend community service day. Service Day will run from 9am to 1pm.
This will cover our service obligations as an RSO for the calendar year.

Deadline for the National Convention early bird Registration is October 18, 2013 before it rises above $180.

The regional convention will be November 8th through the 10th, at Millersville University. Registration will costs $60. To enter material, the fee will be $15. Dylan Hyman made a motion to move from opening to introductions

Nominations will be opened on Wednesday, October 9th , elections will be held on October 16th.

Chloe made a motion to vote for meeting times to be moved to 8 o’clock as per CU-TV programming.
Vote carries unanimously 23-0-1

President’s Report

Introductions: New members must register and fill out the contact sheet.
Our chapter of the National Broadcasting society is a Recognized Student Organization at Clarion University. Because of this we have an obligation to do community service. Clarion’s RSO community service day will be October 12th from 9 to noon. Please report to the Gemmell Student Center at 9am to receive a job.

Events Chair Report

The PASSHE system will be holding a professional networking convention for media students at Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Saturday October 12th, through October 13th. Registration will be $30. Hotel costs consist of the Holiday Inn at $120 a room, Comfort in at $130 per room, and Quality Inn at $107 per room. Provisions (food/beverage) will be provided. If you are interested in attending this event, please contact Britt by email!

President’s Report:
An email was sent to the faculty that we would like to have a networking session with a reception, and faculty would provide a brief dissertation on what their careers were like in the media world. So far 3 faculty members have replied. Contacting alumni and professionals outside the university is in the works.

Comm Prom is this Saturday, and some members have requested that they should not have to pay the 5 dollar admission if they have already paid for the trip, and would prefer to bring a drink and snack as Bre requested. If you are a member of NBS, bring a drink or snack valued around $5. If you do not, then you will be asked
to pay admission.

If you are on Facebook, go “like” the NBS AERho page as requested by our Student Governor, Matt Desmond.

Vice President’s Report:
If you have money or a check for the Hotel or bus, and have not yet given it to Britt, please do that ASAP.
The bus leaves Pittsburgh at 10:15. Those staying in Pittsburgh due to spring break be there on time! If you are meeting in Clarion and carpooling, meet in Clarion on Tuesday night and be ready to leave for Pittsburgh by 7 am.

Events Chair Report:
We need to promote the event much harder this year, as it is not just an event for us or simply a fundraiser. Everyone needs to invite outside people and spread the word. If we elect for member to not have to pay, then there is concern that the prize raffle would not have very much money in it. Dress is again “semi formal.” Set up will be on Friday afternoon, make studio B look like it isn’t a classroom.

If comm prom does not turn out as well as hoped, Dr. Kuehn has other ideas for raising money.

Open Forum:
Frank Lemon – Frank’s dad would able to take time off from work and drive people from Frank’s house to the Megabus station. Britt’s parents will also be able to do the same.

Frank and Becca are looking for extras to be in their film project for Saturday on March 2nd. Contact Frank or Becca if interested.

President’s Report:
Money is now due for the Megabus ($32), Hotel money needs to be paid by March 5th ($149). Money for the bus will be made payable to Britt, either check or cash. Money for the Hotel will be paid to CSA (Clarion Student Association).
We will be working to have a faculty speaker in the next week or two.

President’s Report:

We will be departing for D.C. via the Megabus on March 20th. It will total to $25 per person
Those who are not from Pittsburgh will have to meet in Clarion the day before and carpool to the meeting place in Pittsburgh (TBA).
Hotel Rooms have been booked for the trip
Money for these will be due on Tuesday, February 19th.
We are still trying to find a meeting time that works for everybody, check your email for times.
Checks will not be made payable to Britt this year, look for an update in your emails.
3 projects from Clarion have made it as finalists at the National Convention

The itinerary for the events of the convention is available at the NBS website, feel free to check it out!
Think about places you would like to tour while in Washington, such as the Smithsonian museums and memorials. Let us know your ideas!
Not everyone is as outgoing as others here in our organization, we will be having some exercises to get people to open up so that they will be able to better network.

Events:

What can we do to get people that don’t go to the convention to come to more meetings? We are looking into having speakers come to give us great tips on how to better yourselves as communications professionals, give us any ideas on people you might like to come!

Everyone voted on secret ballot for eboard.
We will be traveling to the national convention via Amtrak
The new vice president will be in contact with Amtrak corp.
We will be leaving for D.C. on the Thursday of the convention, and will leave the following Sunday.
AERho – Honor society for NBS. Criteria is being in NBS for 3 semesters, and holding a 3.25 GPA or greater. The fee is $10 for life. If interested, talk to Frank, who will forward you to Dr. Kuehn for nomination.

President’s Report:
Clarion/PPU joint Kennywood Fright Night was a success
The membership block has been postmarked
Mike Friend will be submitting a paper for the National Convention
The Induction for new NBS members will be on Wednesday, January 30th. It will be mandatory, and also a formal event. The ceremony will begin at 6:30 in the evening.
Begin considering running for an exec position for NBS, as we will be holding nominations on next Thursday, November 8th.
Despite Bloomsburg’s “dropping the ball” on the regional convention, DO NOT discuss it at the National Convention.
Nov. 14th will be the President’s Social Equity dinner, and NBS will send representatives to that.

Sheetz booklets have been mailed by Sheetz corporate.
Events Report:
WCUC 91.7 Fm will be hosting a Night in Hollywood party in Studio B on November 9th to support their Internet Streaming effort.
The Annual 48 Hour Broadcast will be on Nov 30th to Dec 1st. Kickoff for the event will be 6pm the first night. We will be giving away sponsored prizes to the campus and community, and be having a grand old time.
Communications Day is Monday, November 5th. Students will be coming to tour CU-TV “The Nest” and WCUC 91.7FM. They will be at the radio at 12:15, and TV at 12:45. Please come down to help talk to the students and run crew.
Faculty Advisor Report:
PLEASE COME TO THE INDUCTION CEREMONY, IT WILL BE MANDATORY. However, it will be lots of fun!
If you are interested in getting onto the NBS exec board, please contact the exec members, and talk to them! Nominations will be on Thursday, November 8th!
Exec Board Positions include:
President – oversees all things with the chapter, makes sure that people are working well together and making products for submission. Keeps everyone on the same page (lots of emails).
Vice President – In charge of handling membership and registration funds, along with planning trips to conventions.
Treasurer – Handles all money and funds, makes sure that going to conventions can be afforded.
Events Coordinator – In charge of all events held by the local NBS chapter (banquets, inductions, Comm Prom).
Alumni Coordinator – In charge of all alumni members. Contacts alumni for special events, such as guest speakers.
Secretary – In charge of taking notes for all meetings and keeping a record of all information discussed for future reference, and distributing it.
If you don’t get a position, don’t worry! Dr. Kuehn appoints students to committees, and they need leadership too!

Jim Wilson sent us a bunch of NBS memorabilia, consisting of calendars, note books, and pamphlets for the National Convention in D.C.
We have a list of the events as well that will be posted to the site
Nov 1st is the deadline for annual dues, turn in money to either Frank or Britt

Treasurer’s Report:
CSA approved the Sheetz book fundraiser. We should have the books within 10 days.

Events Report:
If you haven’t looked into helping out Bre with the Comm Prom committee, consider it! She meets in Studio B before the regular meetings at 4:30 on Thursdays. Comm Prom will be our biggest fundrraiser!
