On October 6, 2025, at the Clark High School gym, Zoey Helkenn and Lincoln Reidburn were crowned Marshal and Queen for the 2025 school year. Henry School PTO's first Fall Festival was a 'gourd' time.

The Henry School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) hosted its first Fall Festival fundraising event on Saturday, October 4. There were many fun activities for both kids and adults to enjoy: pony rides, apple bobbing, face painting, corn pit, and many fall-themed games. Everyone in attendance enjoyed the attractions and warm weather at the outdoor fundraiser. Henry School PTO President Jim Boyd hopes fundraising events like these can take pressure off smaller school organizations (like Yearbook or Band/Choir) and still give them the funds they might need. "Each high school class or group, like FFA, was also in charge of organizing and running a game. Any money they earned from that game went right into their class or organization's account," explained Boyd. Sponsors helped cover expenses like advertising, admission wristbands, and supplies. The Henry School PTO hopes to continue hosting events like these to help their school with future fundraising events.

Leo Tom and Tina Bierman grow a neighborly flower garden.

New friendships and positive memories are grown alongside butterflies and colorful flowers. Tina Bierman and Leo and Kay Tom are neighbors on South Smith Street in Clark. Tina is a resident of the Roetell's Senior Housing, while Leo and Kay live on a corner lot with space for native flower gardens. One day during a visit Tom learned that Bierman had never done any gardening before, so he thought, "Well, we have to change that!"

Fueled by his mission and heart full of kindness, Tom used his wealth of knowledge to give Bierman the tools necessary to start her garden. He brought Bierman an array of seeds to choose from and she noted, "Since I've never gardened before, I picked lots of flowers that are different colors and shapes to plant in my garden. Tom is an expert of deadheading the flowers he grows at the end of their blooming season and then gleaning them for the future seasons. As a result, the seeds he gleans are proven to be hardier than those purchased in stores.

The 2025 growing season marked the second annual flower garden grown and cared for by Bierman. It was already bigger than the first, and Tom says that the next year, "We are going even bigger." Bierman's selection included marigolds, asters, nasturtiums, sweet Williams, poppies and Black-eyed Susans. In addition, Bierman's Groton High School pen pals have come to visit and provide signs and decorations for her garden. "My garden is so colorful and can be seen by all during the summertime to enjoy," says Bierman with pride. The gardening friends plan to enjoy the garden until a killing frost, then they will allow the plant residue to stay as ground cover to aid in snow drifting. This will create optimal soil health for next year's garden.

2025 marks the 85th celebration of National Newspaper Week.

Since 1940, Newspaper Association Managers has sponsored and supported National Newspaper Week: a week-long promotion of the newspaper industry in the United States and Canada. Local journalism is the heartbeat of informed communities: school board decisions, city council debates, neighborhood events and local heroes. In a world of increasing global headlines and social media noise, reconnecting with local news is vital for civic engagement, accountability and community resilience. By embracing local journalism, we're not just preserving the pastβ€”we're shaping a more informed, connected and empowered future.

To build this better future, we must support local journalism through subscriptions, donations, sharing stories and encouraging the next generation of reporters. Schools, libraries and civic groups can play a role in educating students about media literary and the importance of a free press. Celebrate National Newspaper Week with us! It is a time to reflect and reinforce the vital role newspapers play in informing, empowering and uniting our communities.
